AMD or Intel for $1000 in UK

Hi guys, my friend from UK want to buy a computer with 700 Mhz clock speed, what can u advise him? I mean for approximately J500 (I think approximately eq. to $1000). So what system do you advise (only main system, other hardwares I can easily will combine him)?
Is there anyone who in UK so that can give good advise for J500 price?

Have a look at WWW.Scan.co.uk ,they do an 800 Duron based system for £649 but they will custom build any system for you, you can spec the PC for him then let him order it as components or as a built system
