6800K OC 4.7 1 hour Prime.
Gskill 8gb 2400. running at 2400
MSI FM2 A75MA E35
Samsung SSD 128gb
PC Mark just over 4800

After selling my old system, new upgrade cost $150. I've been upgrading for silly money onto AMD parts for years.

LN2..AMD only does around 5.7-ish max on DICE
PS:I paid $65 for this chip :D ..and it unlocks.

I got an fx 8320 for Christmas and here's what I've been able to achieve so far with it:

Cpu: FX 8320
Name:mlcaouette
Stepping: OR-C0
Frequency: 4707Mhz
ref*multi: 204.69*23.0
CPU voltage: 1.54v-1.56v under load
CPU-NB: 1.25v
nb frequency: 2456Mhz
NB volts: Auto
RAM: 12GB 1600Mhz DDR3 9-9-9-24-2T @ 1.50V (Upgrade on it's way, still in the mail)
Motherboard: Asus sabertooth 990fx R1.0
Cooling: W/C dual custom loops
OS: 8.1 64-bit

That's pretty good micauoette. Do you get more real performance with a little less clock/voltage and more northbridge?
I would think it would run a little warm at that voltage.
Doh! dual w/c loops. never mind..:)

My next move is up to an 8350 I think. Should be a nice bump with a reasonable 24/7 OC.

Is it stable enough to leave it like that all the time?

got my new 8350 today haven't pushed it to far just a quick oc to 4700mhz with multiplier and voltage set at 1.4 stable,

At exroofer, unfortunatly the northbridge doesn't clock very well on my chip. 2600Mhz was as high as I could get it within reasonable voltages.

So far the overclock is very stable it is near the thermal boundries in prime95 even with the 480mm of rad space in push pull config with a TEC assisting with cooling the water.

I can't tell if my screenshot above worked from this work computer but I'll try and remember to come back and check tonight.

And at cemerian, could you give us a screenshot of prime95 or occt after running for two hours so we can see temps and verify stability. Just like my post above.

Still nothing to sneeze at there. I came up against a northbridge wall with my 975 at 2600 as well, it COULD hit 2800, but the voltage it wanted scared me. Though such big bumps over stock performance in for either of us are pretty good imo.

The screenshot is showing for me.

You can see the difference a NB increase makes by running Cinebench 11 benchmark
I have my Phenom II X 6 1100T Black at 2800mhz on auto voltage
I think I could hit 3000 mhz but havent pushed it
I run 3.8 daily OC but have had it up to 4.1 stable but dont like the temps
right now at 3.8ghz 2800 NB 1600mhz ram 1T 2400 HT and my Old Grandpa CPU still holds it own
the FX series is solid but I dont see a reason to upgrade as I would have to upgrade CPU and motherboard (AM3 currently)
sad to say but I have an Intel 1155 rig with a I5-2400 in it that I will probably upgrade to a 3770K and use that as my main rig
I love my AMD but the Intel upgrade path is a better one right now

Of course you can share results from your fx chip, I only ask that if you claim stability you share a photo proving that stability.

From my testing with cinebench the boost in N/B clock was slightly less meaningful for performance for my fx 8320, when comparing my phenom II 955 and my fx 8320. On the phenom II I would run 2800Mhz N/B with 4.2Ghz core on a day to day basis.

The only reason I upgraded was for the overclocking fun, I got the speed of a fx 9590 (sans turbo core) for 140 bucks. Although it wouldn't have been worth it if I didn't already have everything needed including cooling gear.

CPU: FX-6350
Name: Bjiddle
Stepping: C0
Frequency : 4612mhz
Ref*Multi: 200*23
CPU Voltage: 1.4125
CPU-NB:
NB Frequency: 2600
NB Volts:
RAM: 8gb (2x 4gb) 1600mhz
Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX R2.0
Cooling: Noctua D14 140 & 120mm
OS: Win 7 Ultimate
GFLOPS: 33.3 avg from LinX

Idle Temps: 89-93 F
Temps Under 100% Load (p95): 149-160F

I still get Illegal Sumout Errors in one worker in prime95 after about an hour of testing, and I don't know why. LinX runs fine. Are there any other test(s) you think I should run to test/assure/prove stability?

I'm fairly new to overclocking, I have a Phenom II X4 970 3.5ghz Black Edition that used to be in a custom jawn from HP, but I never overclocked it and the mATX board in it went bad. I build this FX machine in its place. I'd love learn how to make it stable and more about overclocking in general.

Cpu MAY want one more voltage bump to keep that worker from dropping, if temps allow.
Most temps will be quoted in Celsius for easy reference.

Normal useage for most FX chips want to be low 50's C, High 40's arguably for a 24/7 OC with long chip life.
60 C plus is too warm for any length of time. You will see that though under P95 , but no game or w/e is going to generate those temps.

Or you may need to drop the multiplier by .5 at same voltage. And live with a slightly lower clock.
Still nothing to sneeze at there.

Don't forget to ramp fan speeds up some for this.

Idle at 4.6ghz at the voltage listed, it was around 40c or 100-105F. Under gaming load I've seen it at 118F, and imagine it tops around 125-130F (I don't know that in Celsius, I'll try to refer to temps in C in the future). I have a Noctua D14 with two fans sitting on my FX chip and four other fans in my case, and a nice NZXT Sentry 2 fan controller.

What are the highest temperatures I should tolerate in P95 (or other tests) before I stop them or back down the voltage? I ask because P95 sometimes runs for hours, mostly at 60+C, the hottest being 71C.

Edit: with the voltage bump you posited, its testing now and the highest temp i've seen is 75C, I'll let it run for an hour and keep and eye on the temp, and see if it fails or plows ahead.

What I go by for fx chips is 72C cpu case temp max and 62C for max core temp. Those are prime temps too, for everyday usage and gaming I like to stay below 55C.

You're are probably losing that core due to the voltage not being high enough could also be the Northbridge overclock though, you never told us the cpu-N/B voltage you're using.

exroofer

Ya if you are seeing those temps, you may be at the upper limit for your chip.

Shoot for 50 ish C under normal usage for a 24/7 stable OC.

Still pretty good though even if you need to back it off a bit.

So that final voltage bump fixed the worker problem! Ran for two hours without any errors, but reached a max temp of 75C. Despite that, its idling around 90F and hovered around 110 playing Crysis.

Guess I'll lower the multiplier just to be safe?
Slightly disappointed my Noctua heatsink doesn't do the job for the OC I was aiming for.

CPU/NB voltage is left on auto, which had it at 1.45 I think? And with CPU/NB LLC on Extreme. Sorry about leaving that out, I'll update it shortly!

If it stays reasonable while gaming you are ok. Which it would seem to be just fine in Crysis temps you quoted. That is only in the 40's C.
You can run all day long at that and never have an issue.

Can someone send me to the place where it explains how to OC my AMD 8150? New to the computer world! Been looking at youtube but most of them are just videos of them showing the Ghz on the screen.
thanks

Watch out for those apu guys, I tried to OC my 5600k and could get a clock of 4.2 ghz and run it for a week but only because the throttling would knock it down every couple of seconds no matter what my settings or what I disabled, seems like an easy way to post iffy/fake scores.
