Overclocking update:

Cleaned out the cooler, swapped the fan for one of my Antec 3 speed case fans (stock cooler fan died :() and set the Antec fan on "HI"

This is a screen from 20 min of Prime 95 Testing. All voltages set to auto, except for RAM, which is manually set to 1.65.

Same specs as previous post.

I don't want to increase the voltage above stock, for longevity reasons. :D

I've had this system running stable at 3.9 for about a year now. :bounce:

Ok, I've got a few questions...

#1: I placed a Prime95 result for my 1090T overclocked to 4.0Ghz and it's not on the stable list yet. (This was weeks' ago.)

#2: If I'm running a Minecraft server with the 955BE overclocked to 4.013Ghz, does that count? It's been running for a month with zero crashes.

P.S. I have several computers that I overclock.

Work in progress, stable so far is this:

1- The rules for OC stable are this:

CPU:8120FX
Name: Noob2222
Stepping:
Frequency: 4407Mhz/5022Mhz turbo (yep, I didn't disable turbo core)
ref*multi: 205*21.5/ 24.5turbo
CPU voltage: 1.2 to 1.4125 (+0.050 in the bios so 1.25 to 1.46, wich is dependent on current speeds)
CPU-NB: stock
nb frequency: stock
NB volts: 1.2
RAM: 4GB 1912Mhz DDR3 8-9-8-24-1T @ 1.60V (G.Skill RipJaws X 1866)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD3
Cooling: XSPC RX240/V3 (water)
OS: 7 64-bit
Temps are 45C at 4.4ghz (all 8) and peak at 64C at 5.4 ghz single core testing. (not core 3, see below) and a whopping 23C at idle.

The stability test can be do it with 2 hours on any of this progmras: Prime95, LinX, OCCT or y-cruncher in stress test mode*
What about "AMD overdrive" stability test. It does calculations on the integer, fpu and a generic calc test.

So far, haven't had a whole lot of time with it but this cpu can scream. Unfortunately due to being lower binned cpu, I have an unstable core 3 above 5 ghz or over 210mhz NB and gigabyte removed thier "cpu core control center" so I currently cannot disable core 3 and run 7cores. All other cores so far can push 5.2-5.4 ghz single thread testing with AMD Overdrive.

I will add screenshots in when I get time to play with it this weekend and figure out how far I can push it without breaking 50C all 8 cores. Im having fun using it instead of putting a lot of time on benchmarks currently.

Some cores are having problems with high frequency /core 3 and core 5). AMD Overdrive isn't an stability test for a simple reason: It's made for the same company that do the CPU and while you CPU can be stable with that test, with any of the mentioned in the 1st page can have BSoD, specially with y-cruncher.

I'm still running some stability tests, ganna start Prime95 here shortly. I ran WEI with 1.325v on the core (Default Vcore) and it BSODed so I uped it a hair to 1.375v and ran it again and 3DMark06 and it passed both just fine so I'm in the ballpark as someone said in another thread.

If there's any improvements I need to do let me know as I'm still fairly new to OCing (at least at this magnitude lol) :D

An update to my last post.

I tested with P95 with my Vcore at the stated v1.375 lol well after about 15 seconds I got a BSOD so I upped the Vcore to V1.4 then ran P95 again, I goto to the 12-13th test and again another BSOD so I upped the Vcore to v1.4125 and that seemed to hit the mark. I ran P95 with the small FFT option for almost 2 1/2 hours with no issue :) . My Vcore was all I changed :D .

Hope i'm doing this right.

CPU: FX-8150
Frequency: 5681.83 Mhz
Multiplier: 20 x 284
Voltage: 1.575V
NB Frequency: 2600Mhz
NB Voltage: Auto
Ram: 16GB Mushkin Redline Ridgeback @ 2677Mhz 9-11-9-2T
Ram Voltage: 1.75V
Motherboard: Asus V Formula
Cooling: CPU/GPU Koolance Kit. 370 Block, 6970 Block, 2x 450S Pumps in drive bay Res. One 3x120MM Rad for GPU, One 2x140MM Rad for CPU combined with 1x 140MM Rad as well. (Separated for better heat distribution)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Running passmark test @ 4.46Ghz @ 1.475V gave me an 11K Score. Passmark states that score at the same speed is 10,400. Which is NOT true. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/36/imag1021o.jpg/
Scored 400 Lower than the 2600K Running @ 4.5Ghz. I was able to get the score over 12K @ 4.9Ghz but do not have a pic of that yet. Soon i will post a score of over 14K if i am able to OC the CPU to 5.8Ghz on water. Haven't tried yet. CPU under idle is @ 55C and 37C without load. Currently running @ 5.67Ghz.

Also, Cinbench score @ 8.4 @ 4.8Ghz while open GL was @ 77. 40 more than the Xeon CPU

Where did you get your processor from?

Considering it sold out withing minutes on every site. I ordered a brand new 8150 from Ebay. Had my system fully ready prior to it. I have been able to reach 5.8ghz on it but i'm afraid to push it even further.

Isn't the ES in the CPUz Windows for Engineering Sample??
If it is, you're either very lucky or very unlucky. That chip, if it's an ES can do a lot more than what you may have tried until now, so go ahead and explore...... :) Lucky you IMO.

If it is an ES chip I'd say push it to a *Truely* stable OC and keep it there and use it to your advantage :p, I'm happy with my 955BE at 4GHz but once I get my hands on a new FX (Preferably the FX-8170 @ 3.9GHz) I'm OCing it to 4.5GHz or greater :p too many ppl underestimate the FX's cause of software/benches that don't utilize the new architecture and features of the FX to its fullest potential.

Updated :

1- The rules for OC stable are this:

CPU:8120FX
Name: Noob2222
Stepping: B2
Frequency: 4407Mhz
ref*multi: 205*21.5
CPU voltage: 1.375
CPU-NB: 205
nb frequency: stock
NB volts: 1.2
RAM: 4GB 1912Mhz DDR3 8-9-8-24-1T @ 1.60V (G.Skill RipJaws X 1866)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD3
Cooling: XSPC RX240/V3 (water) 4x low speed fans
OS: 7 64-bit

This oc was for achieving low 50C max, to go much higher, I had to push the voltage up considerably to 1.48 to achieve 4.8ghz, wich raised the temps above 60C. Core 3 problematic for stability testing, wich was expected since this is a lower binned cpu, 4.4ghz from 3.1 is still good.
My temps after 3 hrs of testing peaked at 52C.

Starting up (after playing some games, temps somewhat stabilized already)

Finished - had to go to work so I stopped it and took the screenshot after cooldown

Not sure why CPU-Z shows these as (ES), this one was purchased from newegg.
