Yes it may be a bit strange. However, I've seen stranger. Plus, what if I had said that it was me? Would that be even weirder? You would have never known 😛 Or if it were some random picture I found on google images of a random person. What if it were Bill Gates, or Steve Jobs? Would that be weird? Just food for thought. I get what you're saying though. Oh well. Everyone is a bit weird in one way or another. 😉

So i said on the last page i will run a benchmark to test the HT performance gains. I only got 1 benchmark to use (3dmark) cause I don't do benchmarks often but it should at least give a idea of what to expect, if someone would like to do further testing then by all means, please do.

Setup used:
Athlon x4 620 @ 3.25Ghz
NB OC'd to 2500Mhz
HT stock 2000 / 2500 for test
12gb RAM
ATI 5770 OC'd 951 core and 1330 mem

Stock HT @ 2000Mhz

Scored GPU: 6373 CPU: 10267

Overclocked HT @ 2500Mhz

Scored GPU: 6380 CPU: 10201

NOTE: I used Filegooi because I cba to register at Photobucket 😀

in that link you gave microgoliath they found that at 2400mhz the HT either didnt lose or gained a little performance it was when they went over 2500mhz that there was a performance drop

@Mal-please disregard my post about 3.5ghz DDR3-1667 being stable
doesnt belong on list
if such a thing existed it wouldve been called almost stable LOL
I actually had 3.6ghz 1333 booting, running apps but would crash after 45 mins of P95 blend but would run IBT and benches like 3Dmark11 and Cinebench fine

but a 100mhz or 1600mhz ram isnt worth not being rock solid stable
at 3.5ghz 1333 9-9-9-24 1T my Phenom II x 4 925 2.8ghz runs awesomely stable
so I am giving up
setting and forgetting it
if I need more CPU power then I will get a new CPU
I have a chance at a 955BE for $50 USD on craigslist
the guy really wants to sell the mobo and CPU as a combo for $100
but I am hoping he gives up and sells the 955BE by itself
though really I am hoping for a desperate soul to be letting go of a decent Thuban for cheap on Craiglist
I could use the extra cores for the video work I like to do
plus I somewhat believe in MOAH cores LOL
as long as they are Deneb quality or better that is

Hi guys im new to overclocking i just went through sm of procedure mention in tom hardware overclocking guides and followed through sm already successful OC's and Did with same with my rig.Aim is to get max speed for my 3d rendering so want to get 4.2ghz but unsucessful in tht however i managed till 4Ghz by sm of the setting Done below:

Cpu: 970 Be
Name: vikas12
Stepping: 3
Revision: RB-C3
Frequency: 4000
ref*multi: 200*20
CPU voltage: 1.44
CPU-NB: Normal [Default]
nb frequency: 10x [2000mhz]
NB volts: Normal [Default]
RAM: 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3 9-9-9-2t @ 1.65V
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
Core Temp 100% load :58-59 Degrees
Core Temp Idle : 39-41 Degrees

Note: 1) not able to get 4.2ghz on my board by increasing vcore voltage up to 1.5v still it fails in windows startup.
2) Also im using normal 400 watts PSU is tht limiting me to OC with Low voltage?

My current OC Status:

You shouldn't need any more or less voltage whether you are raising ref clock or just multiplier, so in theory you should be able to set it to 200 x 20 (4GHz) and keep your 1.47VCore and your RAM at 1:4 for 1600MHz.
If you can get that setting stable then you can start trying to lower your VCore little by little and stress testing for stability.
After your CPU setting is stable then you can start tweaking your RAM settings. You might be able to get 8-8-8 timings at say 1.60V but won't know till you try.....just don't try changing both RAM and CPU at once cuz then you won't know what went wrong.

EDIT: OK I just saw your updated post. Most chips will not do 4.2GHz...only a few lucky ones. I see your VCore is down to 1.44V at 4GHz so that's good, but your load temps are higher than safe values. You may have to clock lower so that you can lower the voltage to a point that puts you in a safer temperature zone. Either that or buy a better cooling solution. There are a lot of inexpensive air coolers that should be able to get you much better thermals for $25-$30. Going above 55°C at load is not recommended.

now as per my recent OC its Stable its vcore voltage is lesser. which is 1.44v unlike before it was 1.475v so as u said ,now i need to tweak down my memory speed setting actually by default in bios. i ve always seen the ram running at 1333mhz but in Ram, they have mentioned its 1600MHZ.So wud it be safe to make it Run on 1600mhz.

I found that lowering the rams speed helped me to get stable then afterwards you can try setting it back to 1600MHz,
I'd also look at increasing the Nb speed slightly, 2400 was good for me if I recall at 4.4GHz
but your Psu isn't helping I suspect,
I also read something about having all your ramslots filled makes it more difficult somehow?
but I'm not 100% up on that and my 4.5GHz session was with 4x2Gb sticks in so I didn't worry/think anything of it
Moto

Yes it is safe as long as you don't set the RAM voltage above 1.65V. You could also probably raise your NB frequency to 2400 - 2600MHz without having to change any voltage settings. Maybe even 2800 - 3000 with a bump in CPU-NB voltage up to 1.25 - 1.30.

EDIT: Yeah the PSU....it is fine as long as you are not going to be using a dedicated graphics card. Or if you are it should be one that does not require any power connectors and only needs the power that the PCI-E slot provides.

May be coz of room temperature it too hot and abt cooling solution Already Using Coolermaster hyper212+ do i need more then this for air cooling also when im at stock speed my core temp goes 55+ since my system is on like a months continously only during night time like 10hours the temps goes down abt 52degrees

Set Pcie clock to 100
HT to 2000, not auto
as you clock up, the bios is adjusting these as well, you want them at a set measure to keep them in limits
**Edit two fans on the H212 I assume? and what is your room temperature? you say its high?
Moto

ok done

?? I just click teh button and movez teh sliderz Braw 😛
You know more of the technical stuff to explain than I do, I just know what works, not necessarily how it works hehe
'I understand but I don't comprehend' (Firefly ref ftw)
**@Vikas, ok, on air you are going to struggle to get idle speeds below 40'C then, even with powerful airflow

Ouch those temps are high! I'm assuming TMPIN2 is your CPU temp as your individual cores are usually lower than that. The max safe temp is 55 - 62°C so I'd seriously suggest lowering your OC unless you are planning on buying a new CPU really soon. It still seems high even with a 32° ambient. I know mine only idles about 1 degree above room temperature and I have the same cooler with only 1 fan on a 1090T. Maybe try cleaning your CPU and heatsink and re-applying the thermal grease?

Ouch. Dunno what to tell ya then :/
Where do you live...on the Sun? lol j/k 😀
I live in Canada and it's a basement apartment so even in the summer when it's 30°+ outside I'm used to having the room temperature at 21° or lower.
