They're still not enough of a threat, but they're more competitive. So, I'd go with a marketing term like Simply Triple. That says it all.

I'm an AMD fan who wants one in a few months. I need to change my signature. My Gigabyte board died on me after 6 months and I didn't have time to order from Newegg, so I went out to Fry's and got an ASUS 790GX board. That should allow for overclocking a Phenom II 720 with a Zalman cooler if I want too.

edited to add:

I changed my signature. I didn't have any issues with the board that some people at Newegg reported. They only had three in stock at Fry's that day, two were open box but I got the one that wasn't. Hope it lasts 6 months or more so I can decide whether AM3 is worth it in the fall.

I'm finally using Vista Home Premium 64 and it's good. I have another 4 gigs but it's Crucial, not Kingston. Probably should work. It was on sale at Fry's. I'd already spent quite a bit at Newegg (mostly on storage, new OEM 64 bit Windows, new monitor and graphics for my wife's PC). The idea is for both of our PC's to have 64 bit Windows. She wanted XP 64 and could use 8 gigs of RAM too.

She'll get the Gigabyte board when it's replaced, but those Phenom II triples are so good that I'm thinking she'll get a 720 without overclock, and I'll get one and overclock. Our 8 year old can get the Phenom triple I have now and we can retire all but two of the dual cores (one HTPC and one backup in the bedroom).

So, Hellboy can market his phrase "AMD for Wife" (it would really fit an enthusiast who went Intel i7 but built a Phenom II for his spouse) and amdfangirl can remind me that I spend too much on upgrades. Only at tax refund time and this year it's patriotic to upgrade. Need to stimulate that tech economy.

What LCD monitors are ya'll using? This Acer 21.5" 1920 x 1080p is great. It cost me less than my friend's Samsung that's 1680 x 1050, though a 23" Acer with the same resolution is now available for only ten dollars more. That's my luck. A week after I get the new monitor, the replacement arrives at Newegg. On the other hand, LOTRO looks amazing at Ultra High settings with triple buffering to boost framerates. Only lags in the 21st Hall if it's crowded with players and their pets sparring.

I'm wondering if this early 70's townhouse has voltage issues? I had a 3870x2 die and two months later the Gigabyte board. I'm putting a Corsair 650 watt PSU in to replace the Antec this weekend, just in case, and I have a Belkin UPS and surge suppressor. The graphics card just died on me but the Gigabyte board wouldn't boot the morning after a really bad thunder storm, though everything else from the old RAID card with the Seagate 400 gig IDE used for storage and the 4870x2 were fine after I put in the new board. We're moving to a nice apartment further north in two weeks and it was built in the late 80's so it might be an improvement. I do hate these huge winter thunderstorms here in Texas. They don't last long but the lighting is almost apocalyptic at times.

Why dont you get your self a cheap ups.... That would cover your mains problem... :)

btw good job your not middle eastern as you would have to build a lot of pc's for AMDforWifes...
