Thats a very good budget CPU but its not going to work on your motherboard since thats an Intel processor youve got there. You need to be looking at the Intel procs for your upgrade. And thats a pretty old socket 775 CPU so youll need to be looking at the Core 2 line or youll have to get a new motherboard. That is a decent motherboard youve got there so see if you can dig up a Core 2 Quad or Core 2 Duo somewhere.

Very funny:) Im a professional 3d artist and i know sth about computers... of course i have to change my mobo (in this case it would be mobo with AM3 socket). I didn't mention it because i thought it was obvious...

Well ya never know how green some folks are. ;)

What kind of budget are you looking at here? If youre going to go with a new motherboard, RAM and operating system, might be able to build ya something a little better than that X3.

I would spend the extra money on a Phenom II, I run an x4 945 and with a little OCing it's suppose to run any gpu very well. Also buy an AM3+ board wither you decide on an Athlon or a Phenom.

Only if your on a low budget and your getting that chip for less than $100.

I highly recommend your get yourself a LGA 1155 based Core i3 2100 or 2120. These are much faster than any AMD cpu for gaming, and also consume only half the power that the Phenom x4 does :)
Also gives you a much better upgrade path in the future:)

Your on a socket 775 intel board. You can not put that CPU on it. You could go for a Core2 Quad CPU. But it would make more sense and be better in the long run to get a new motherboard + CPU combo.

1155 ARE faster but only when it comes to i5 or i7 and they're not that cheap. i3 2100 is weak and surely much slower than one from AMD... I presume you don't know much about IT and you just have one...

Actually at stock speeds the i3's are stronger than the phenoms (Aside from heavily threaded apps and multitasking.) The higher ipc and all around more efficient architecture is to thank for that.....

Dude people ask questions here that are as obviously easy to answer as it possibly can be. They still ask. If you don't provide full info. One can only assume what or what you do not know...

If you know all that, why ask in the first place. Seems like you have your answer already. :p

Besides, you could still upgrade to a socket 775 Core2 Quad CPU, if you can still find one (there are used ones for around 100$ on amazon.com).

Nope. This is the 2100 against a 955 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/88?vs=289 The 2100 beats it in most benches and is close in the 3 or 4 others that it doesn't.

If you happen to live near a Microcenter http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0354589 2500K for $169.99

That. A Q9650 (the best that board supports) would be a very nice upgrade.

Read, see the opinions. Also if you'd not noticed before i have AMD Graphics card. AMD Card + AMD Processor=full cooperation. I won't buy i3 because i'm from Poland and here they're bloody expensive!
My question:
What is the difference i shall feel after changing my processor from e5220 to this Phenom II??

Full cooperation doesn't even come close to mattering... And a Q9650 would be pretty much as good as a 945.

The 965 BE is the best option, if you REALLY want to change everything over to AMD.

Hi Alex_L_29,

Firstly, with your current Graphics Card, you won't be able to Max. out every game at 1080p no matter what processor you put in. Secondly, if you don't want to buy Intel processors, then the FX-4100 will be much better upgrade for you. But, as the new Piledriver CPUs are coming later this year, it will make more sense to wait rather than buying a Bulldozer CPU.

If you're on a tight budget and you don't want to wait, then I think you should get an AMD FX-4100 processor with an ASUS 760G motherboard. This combo will be very cheap and won't bottleneck most of the high to mid range Graphics Cards.

So, save money here and spend more to buy a powerful Graphics Card. This deal will make more sense and will give you an overall powerful system.

Regards,
SmartGeek

Well like i said i run the 945, with the cooler master hyper tx2 cooler (about $25) on the hottest days it'll just barely get above 40C, the only thing i don't like about it is the core clock is a little slow for when i upgrade my gpu, but you can oc these things pretty high I guess (even with a locked multiplier). I would have spent some extra money on a black edition, but i use an AM2+ board and they don't have the right memory controllers.

Well, the title said Athlon 2 X3 and now we're discussing the Phenom II X4 945. Not a big deal, but you should change title if it's possible :)

If you're really about to go with the X4 945 that's a great choice, but it would be cheaper and could give you much better performance going Intel with an i3-2120 and a cheap AsRock/Asus/Gigabyte H61 board. I own this processor with 8 gigs of Geil Enhance ram and it will perform flawlessly with my future 6850.

Now I'm not sure if you are just trolling or really that uneducated on the subject of computer hardware.

The people here are giving you viable information. If you don't want suggestions, then why bother asking.

I'm a professional 3d artist and i won't fight with you now cause i simply have no time for people like you. And if you believe that Radeon HD 6770 is not a strong GC than, well...maybe you should stop talking about I.T. :sarcastic: " people here are giving you viable information" - correct (i'll ignore voc. mistake)! But you're not 1 of those people so please don't "help me" anymore.
ps. Thank you DJDeCiBeL :)
