Well, being about at the same price point, i wanted to see which processsor was better....
The core i5 is a locked processor with 4 cores running at 3.1 ghz

and then the phenom x6 is an unlocked processor with 6 cores running at 3.2 ghz

so in all i'm going to be doing some gaming playing starcraft 2 and maybe some crysis and i want to see which processor is better? i heard intel has higher quality than amd. and i was wondering if i need a 6 core would be overkill for those games. lastly i'm running the system with 4gbs of ram clocked at 1600, and a gtx 460 768mb card
thanks

There are only a couple games that benefit from more than 4 cores, and the benefit is no where near significant.

4 faster cores > 6 slower cores

Not to mention... its 32nm... Sandy Bridge... Easy choice for a gamer.

OP what resolution do you play at? At 1080p you won't see a performance difference between the two. I like to see anyone show me a cpu bench where one cpu crushes another at a high resolution.

Check out 5870 crossfire or better and you'll see significant differences (not many reviews out there) between K10 and i-core CPUs. Of course there are games that are very GPU bound or AMD favored, but the majority follow this (from what I've seen).

There are some things you have to ask your self, first being am I going to overclock. Second being am I going to be do anything else besides gaming that is cpu heavy. I would say get the intel core i5 because it is a 32nm processor and it is easier to find a board that supports Nivdia. Although it is only four cores they are strong.
