they couldn't compete with sandy bridge, why even try to compete with ivy bridge? and i thought they were moving away from desktop processors to focus more on servers/mobile processors.

nothing new here unless they can pull miracle on next gen "komodo" which i doubt, but i'm just hoping they gave i5 at least a run for their money

See i think we all would like to see AMD pull something out of the bag to compete just so we had different options availible.

Unfortunate it won't happen.

Very misleading title. I thought it might be a reference to Piledriver; these new chips aren't up against Ivy Bridge, they can barely compete with Sandy Bridge Pentium and i3.
What a waste.

[citation][nom]bjaminnyc[/nom]This is kinda' like saying, Ford is releasing a new Focus to go against the Farrari 458 Italia.[/citation]
Ain't that the truth, only issue is though, at least the ford has price/performance. This has absolutely Zip.

125 watts, I guess AMD is just pumping up Ghz at the cost of heat to try and compete like Intel did with the Pentium IV. Come on AMD what happened to the geniuses you had that trounced Intel with the Athlon 64? They are doing well with AMD Fusion, Hondo looks promising and the Radeon HD 7000 series are great in power savings and completely trounce nVidia in performance per watt.

Title is misleading. More like AMD plans to push out additional processors and adjust the price to compete better - not necessarily a head-on battle. :\

It's like Intel releasing additional Pentium 4s and Ds to compete against AMD's Athlon64 X2...

[citation][nom]Chip in a Box[/nom]Ivy Bridge isn't much of an upgrade and it overclocks worse than sandy. It's also a very hot chip.[/citation]

How do you know? The 3770K (IB) and the 2700K (SB) have the same clock rate, cores and HT, the only difference is that the IB has a TDP of 77W, the SB has a TPD of 95W.

Chip in a box... you are an AMD fanboy. Almost everything you said has already been proven wrong. It is a major upgrade to Sandy Bridge (15% faster on CPU up to 2x faster on graphics, has more room for overclocking, and considerably cooler at 77W).

He's a troll, and a blatantly obvious AMD fanboy. Ignore him.

LOL... just because somebody slates IB as not really much of a step up over SB, that automatically makes them an AMD fanboy? I admit it's very possible, but not everything is black and white.

He might even be a recent SB adopter trying to justify his purchase.

+1. Anyone who says a 77W chip is hotter than a 95W chip is either a moron or troll. In either case, they aren't worth your time.
