Several years back, I remember being told by some rather affluent business men that Intel had plans on the board for the next ten years. And could build any of those designs at any time. Implementation, of course, changes incrementally as new technologies become available. From a discreet point of view, it does look like Intel has a strategy, to prevent AMD from "leap frogging" as they did earlier this decade and I assume that is the "tick - tock" plan you refer to.

I suspect however, that AMD has some strategies of thier own, and we jolly consumers, will just need to see how it plays out.

I certainly hope that AMD has some things up their sleeve. Based on current evidence, it doesn't appear that they have an answer in Phenom.
Basically Intel is still kicking their arse.

A couple of years or so ago we could be having this discussion in reverse (excluding the money issue) about intel. Intel bounced back and so will AMD.

I heard that IBM and Sony are working with AMD in a joint effort to bring out some new products in the R&D area. I can't remember where I read that but I know I did.

It may be a while before AMD surfaces at the top again but all of us (including you happy meal jokers) will benefit from AMD's efforts to stay competitive.

I am in favor of both companies since I was a long time customer of Intel while AMD was smearing them in the mud. And am currently an AMD customer. Both have good products and will do anything any of you need do to. You just have to admit it...

Hide and watch for the turn of the tides.

Phenom won't able to keep up with Intel. It will be a pre-fragged launch for AMD.

However, if AMD continues to bargain-bin there stuff I would consider there products. I never buy top-of-the-line. I usually spend about $200 on a processor and $300 on a video card. I get whatever will give me the most bang at that price point.

Sell more of it? kickbacks?..... Play like Intel and pay the manufacturers to shun INtel chips?.... Mmmmm... I know...
Buy off Penryn, and market it as their own.
