AMD Radeon 6650M for Minecraft?

Heya.

So, I'm in the market for a new laptop, and while I was browsing around on Newegg, I found this.

I was checking it against the recommended requirements, and it came up good (also looks awesome from non-minecraft ideals) until I looked at the graphics card. I can't seem to find anything that compares the 6650M against the cards it suggested on the system requirements page.

So, my question to you guys/gals is will it run Minecraft? I don't need much more (though it'd be nice) and I have saved up this much money, but I don't want to waste it on a bad investment. Should I find a better laptop? Buy it and upgrade the graphics card myself?

This is a notebook GPU, so i would say that you cannot compare with any Desktop GPU, but you can compare it with another Notebook GPU, this 6650M performance is equivalent to a 540m Notebook GPU.

It is yes a good gpu for Notebooks, and will work minecraft... the prices also looks good. if you find a laptop with a better price with a geforce 540m GPU, you can also go for it.

I've run minecraft on a ATI 2400 HD pro with 128mb and it was fine, So it should work fine with most cards. I must also mention, I got allot of lag on the game until I upgraded my CPU... I was using a Pentium E2160 and upgraded to a Core 2 Duo E6700 and its worked perfectly since.

So I run at good frame rates on the lowest settings using a 2400 HD (Which is worse then built in graphics on the i series CPU's "i3, i5 and i7") and a E6700 @ 2.66ghz with 4mb cache.

Minecraft is a CPU dependant game, it uses very low the GPU power, i used to play it with a 9800gtx+ and then with a 560 ti, no performance improvement at all, minecraft is a JAVA game focused on CPUS so upgrading your graphics card to play minecraft is not a good idea. so that is why the notebook will run minecraft...

No, I don't that be somewhat true, I ran minecraft in my laptop, it has I think the nvidia 315M GPU and it ran minecraft on far/fancy at the average 60fps and won't dip below 50. It has the i5 arandale (whatever) CPU with HD graphics, and since my laptop has optimus switchable graphics, I can switch my GPU to the HD graphics. And all I get is lag, like 10fps that is used to be 60fps.

But could be CPU bound too, dunno much.

i'm not saying that the game ONLY uses the CPU, i'm saying that the CPU is what cause more FPS difference, but if you are only using CPU of course there will be more lag than using any dedicated gpu to help...

but if you have a mid-low end gpu the game will already run good and changing it will almost not improve performance.

on the other hand, if you have the same graphics card and upgrade from a dual core cpu, and go with a i5, you will notice the difference.

I was actually going to mention in my post that minecrafts performance seems to be more CPU oriented. I can verify that I got a significant performance boost upgrading from a duel core E2160 @1.8ghz with 1mb cache to a E6700 @ 2.66ghz with 4mb cache and I'd say I got around an extra 20-30 frames from the upgrade. Running on a low profile ATI 2400 HD which was even a low performance card in 2007!
