Hi,

I'm deciding between these two processors for a new laptop.

If I do word processing and Paint Shop Pro with several internet tabs including Youtube videos open at the same time, which processor would you recommend and why? Will I notice a difference between them? Will the only difference be speed?

I’ll have 16 gb RAM. Would I need 32 gb Ram to get the most benefit out of the Ryzen 7?

My current laptop has 2 cores and 4 threads, and I'm happy with it. But maybe I don't realize what I'm missing!

Thanks, everyone.

The primary difference is performance.
The 7840 has 8 performance cores while 7545 has only 2 (plus four economy cores ).
The 7840 has an IGP that is 3x as powerful as the 7545.
The 7840 has a NPU while the 7545 does not. However the 7840's NPU is so weak it not only does not meet the expected requirements for Windows 12, but also cannot run Copilot in Windows 11 now.

If you want a laptop APU that will last longer than Windows 11, consider Strix Point Ryzen AI 300 series.

Yes, though it does depend on what the final hardware requirements turn out to be.

Originally they said it would require a NPU with at least 40 TOPS (which is what Windows 11 Copilot requires now), but it's looking more like the final requirement will be ~45-50 TOPS.

The 7840 has a NPU with up to 10 TOPS.

Don't take anything about NPU into consideration, it's useless now.
7840u has 8 zen4 cores , 7545u has 2 zen4 + 4 mini zen4, so definitely 7840u when the price of these CPUS are the same

Thank you.
The 7840u is $119 more. Is that still worth it? And the 7840u's release date (May 2023) was earlier than Ryzen 5 (November 2023). Doesn't that impact longevity also?
