And here's a Dell system for $324 SHIPPED w/o tax.Dell system w/17" crt, keyboard, mouse, 48x cd burner, windows xp home

Now show me a homebuild or small time computer builder that can beat that price while offering similar content. I'm really excited to see you try, seeing as how a new 17" CRT runs around $100 in itself, and a valid copy of windows XP home oem is another $75, and a new keyboard/mouse combo will run at least $10 for even the crappiest thing you could find. I guess that leaves you with $139 to build a computer, and don't forget to add in the shipping. Ya, Good luck w/that.

which is exactly what i said earlier there cheapest computers come with crt/lcd monitors and are around 300 dollars, u cant build a p3 for that price with a monitor...

"I don't think AMD need's Dell there computer are overrated and just as poor quality parts as HP computers. "

so just to let everyone know, the average user... parents, grandparents, adult who buy the computer for a present and give it to there kids, dont know that 1/1000 dells has a faulty psu or will die in 3-4 years, they dont know that a pentium4 is way faster than a celeron, they dont know that a video card will make games actually playable, they also have no idea that 1gb memory is much better than 256. they spend the 300 dollars, get everything in one, somehow manage to plug everything in correctly without killing themselves, hit the power button and are guided through the rest of the installation. it cant get any simplier than that unless tech support comes and sets it up for you. now for u people who say "buy from monarch, falcon or whatever else. they dont sell lower end components (celerons, semprons)... that i know of at least. and the cheapest falcon i saw was 1600 dollars, monarch has very good prices but i doubt they can come close to dells 350 for an entire computer. one last thing, people who buy computers from dell see the commercials, hear from neighbors or even go to work and see the 500000 dells that each company has, then they think that theres good computers (which they are, for the most part) so they buy one. they would rather have a brand name over a "monarch computer" no matter how much better monarch is (i had a friend buy a $1600 from monarch and he loves it). not many average users even know what monarch is, or would trust an online computer store

And lets not forget Parlee, most of those users aren't doing anything more than internet, email, typing reports, instant messaging, ripping and burning cds, ebaying, and only occasionally playing computer games, and those games usually not being the latest and greatest, or atleast not the most graphic intensive by a long shot. For them, the base model works excellent.

Even if one wants to do more than that, it makes for an unbeatable barbones rig to add things to. I for one would love to get one to make a sweet video encoding machine. Another 256 of ram, a DVD burner, a capture card, and a pin mod on that Deleron to 3.8 Ghz would be the ticket to killer encoding performance for a total price of $450.

thats exactly what ive been saying, well kinda, i still say that most dells are pretty good deals, with the exception of the xps, those are pretty overpriced, but they have to do that to make a profit... but just to let u know that (and yes i finally agree with the dell haters) that the lower end ones (sub 800) are pretty much unupgradable, with the exception of memory, the psu's are too weak to support more than whats in it already (which is how the prices are kept down). but like i said average users dont know how to do any of that and wouldnt want to void there nice 3 year warrenty by doing so... but to get an entire system for 350 is unheard of, even emachines, which are MUCH lower qualily, arnt that low for and ENTIRE SYSTEM. and for every1 still actually reading this, just ignore dvd he doesnt know what hes talking about...

i swear u cant even read. i said dells low end is fine for the average user and ive said since this forum started that xps are the only overpriced ones.

3.bye bye im stayin out if this thread startin now!
4.i'll pm u if you reply to me

Parlee,

Here is a Dell Config for over $20,000 USD:

Here is a functionally BETTER machine from newegg for $11,000 USD:

newegg_config.png

You can get a BETTER server from newegg or any other vendor online for 11k vs 20k from Dell.

Which is the better deal?

Do you see what I was talking about in my posts above?

Once you hit configure prices go way up.

Most Dell servers are expensive to begin with even the mass produced ones so even if you do not customize it you are still paying too much.

Funny enough if you go to www.monarchcomputer.com you can get a custom QUAD 865 for that same $20,000. It'll have the SCSI or SATAII backplane 4 count em four Opteron 865s and 16 GB.

The newegg config above has a Supermicro case with an 8 bay U320 SCSI backplane and a 4 channel U320 SCSI RAID controller while the Dell only has a Perc4 with 5 U320 bays and only 2 channels IIRC.

My newegg config also has 16GB of RAM [ 8x2GB sticks ] just like the Dell.

Newegg did not have the 8xx Opterons so I had to substitute 2 Dual Core 2xx Opterons which will work fine and cost a fortune anyway. The Dell too only had 2 Dual Core Xeons as well to make it fair.

I could have put 4 Dual Core Opteron 870s in there for $1,000 each [ $4,000 total for 4 PHY CPUs and 8 PHY Cores ], but again I only put 2 CPUs in the Dell.

like jesse said, would newegg stay up till 2 helping u fix ur computer?would they ship a replacement no questions asked within a day? no. neweggs service is very good but dells is much better

I'll tell you this: I'd rather buy Dell Precision workstations, PowerEdge Servers, and higher end Opterons than be forced to hire a bunch of geek lusers who have an 8yr old's concept of grammer to support my hardware. You guys going to run around and put LED fans in all my machines to make them faster?

This has nothing to do with Intel vs AMD, but the fact corporate environments want machines they don't have to screw with, and sure as hell aren't the majority of DIY machines. Sally in accounting could give a crap about DX9 benchmakrs and if her GPU is over-clocked or not. If I were to build 20 machines from ASUS or Tyan motherboards I'd have to hard jumper the MB's in half of them just so I could flash the BIOS so the machine would boot.

I build my own machines, I build my own servers, and I've been deploying Compaq, IBM and Dell servers workstations since the late 90's. By far, Dell has given me the least amount of problems.

Dell builds crap like everybody else, and if you buy the lower end Dimensions and bargain deals off of Dells main page, you would have likely been better off getting E-machine because it's a better value for limited money. The higher Dell's, along with their servers however are some of the most reliable machines I've ever used. I work with a lot of different IT people in various levels of IT shops, and none have any complaints about Dell.

My perspective is of somebody who actually uses their computer to do work, and supply network services on a reliable basis. Far be it for me to disagree with somebody who rides a skateboard to their job and is an expert on computer hardware because they can over-clock their video card.

lol did u make ur account to post that? because if so it was a good first post u cant sway him though hes an amd fan for no reason, he wont admit that dell has good machines because they run only intel, its not worth typing out anything to him because he cant admit when hes wrong... but as for the grammer part, i guess it goes for me too :) lazyness is my excuse... for everything in life.

lol well at least it actually happened and im not just making shit up, so its a step forward... but either way i believe it, because how would dell be so big if they had overpriced computers and horrible service? easy answer!!! they wouldnt! thats why enthusiests dont use tigerdirect, because newegg has way better service, even if tigerdirect may have lower prices on few things...

DVD I have mostly held my tongue "till now" about your childish and flaming attitude.

I want to make sure I get your thinking right...

If I do not agree with you I must:

A) Be an idiot.
B) Be a Fanboy (your words).
C) Work for the company that you dislike.

So by your estimation I:

Am a complete idiot who is also a complete FANBOY of everything for which I post a positive response. Also, I work for both Intel and Dell and Rehat too cause I have said some positive comments about those in forums too.

First, I am far from being an idiot.
Second, I am a FANBOY of my family.
Third, I work for Verizon (which I am sure is a hellish company in your mind too).

DVD you are more and more making yourself look like the idiot which you call others. You are nothing but an argumentative little brat with way too much time on your hands.

Your posts are so LACKING in content/sense/truth/sense/??? that people basically are laughing at you as the villiage idiot. If you are a Fanboy provide REAL information why. Provide detailed links from reputable people/sites. Enforce your statements with truth and intelligence not hearsay and bias comments. And, as stated before you could learn a lot about spelling and grammar by using WORD for your posts.

If you are thinking about posting write your response in WORD and run the spelling and grammar checkers. They will show you where and why your grammar is so poor. You can then cut and paste from word to the reply window. Sentences start with a capital letter for instance. Right now your posts do nothing to encourage or help anyone.

Just so you know "communication is the transfer of meaning form one person to the next". If you are not transfering anything of value it is not communtication.

very well said... (even though once again, my grammer sucks 😛)

@ dvd

its funny how quickly u change ur reasoning for hating somthing... u said u hated them before because there "cheap crap thats overpriced" then when u were proven wrong u argued that "their service sucks and they dont honor their warrentys" when u were proven wrong u then changed ur reason to "my friend got fired, so they must suck" which is the reason why my next computer purchase may just be a dell for that one reason. u make me laugh  none the less thats not a reason to tell people that dell sucks, it is a reason for you and ur friend to not like them, i guess, but if ur friend got fired from AMD would u become an intel fanboy? or would u just stop using computers? (i really hope its the latter)
