Fancy! - Ok, not 110, but it's $137. If you go small form factor, you can get what you want for under $100.

If you're going super cheap, you can actually probably find an MSI board for about $70. It may not support the best DDR2 speeds, but it will work and has PCIx16 :)

I was surprised how much the Core 2 boards have come down...

Did they ever find those WMD's

Actually, yes they did, but that was not relevant to the news story they wanted to sell.

As for which CPU, kinda like ZOldDude said, for many, it is all about cost and bang for buck as well as what one can afford at the time of the upgrade.

There is another group of up-grader's, they are like me. I for one really do not care what system I use or which CPU. I always support the underdog if his product is near equivalent. My reason is that some of use need to keep that little guy alive so we have competition. Also, I am cheap, so keeping the little guy alive is actually important to me. Competition between more than one drives prices down. Competition between only one drives prices up. 8)

Sometimes to beat a dirty competitor, you have to cheat yourself. Goes for any sport or competition.

So, as long as you're advocating cheating...at least AMD could have been smarter at it. They've shown that they're too dumb to even do that well.

Now THAT is AMD bashing...please...

Must we bring up the good 'ol Athlon 64 days to shut the haters up?

HAVE FAITH!

Can you tell that no one here has a sense of humor....(except for me) you insult their fav processor and it was like you insulted their mother.

So? When Intel does something dumb, I bash them too.

Nice Amd bashing there guys, C2D folks are all the same I tell ya.

I don't think so. A lot of people who own C2Ds are not fanboys at all. Some even are AMD backers that simply want something that AMD does not offer, like a UP four-core setup or a low-voltage mobile CPU in a thin-and-light computer.

So glad I dont own one!

I'm glad that my new laptop I just ordered came with one as a 10-watt U7500 will run far cooler and run longer on a battery than any Turion 64/Turion 64 X2 will, while weighing less as well. I'm also very pleased with the performance of my X2 4200+ desktop and the fact that I was able to get a good dual PCIe x16 motherboard for a mere $110, something that's almost impossible to find with Intel boards. There are advantages and disadvantages to each makers' CPUs- get what works well for you and realize that it might not be the best for everybody else, too.

Would prob hang myself from the monumental feeling of guilt of thinking I owned the king of CPUs and couldnt handle sitting on top of my high horse for this long, Rofl...

You need some fresh air, bud. Badly. Roll the chair away from the keyboard, walk out of the room and lock the door. Go do something physical like run five miles. Then come back when you're feeling better.

But wait... You acknowledge some of AMD's flaws, you are the enemy. If you don't spin every bit of information into a positive for AMD you MUST be an Intel pumper, right?

Sarcasm aside. I am EXTREMELY critical of AMD on these boards. Yet my home computer has an Opteron in it. Why? Because it was a good value at the time and could be an upgrade to my existing system. Yet, if I was to build a new machine it would have an E6600 in it. It's called common sense.

Anyone is entitled to back AMD or Intel no matter what. However, if you back a company 'just because', don't come to hardware forums where 'just because' isn't good enough.
