If you keep the server small, as you say, and have enough memory, I'd imagine it would work out fine. Do some reading online about the needed performance, or even ask in the forums.[/citation]As long as it has tons of memory, this CPU is plenty fast. But why? Why not get a cheaper Athlon II X2? Hosting a Minecraft server on an APU is a waste - the server isn't going to use the GPU, so half of the APU is worthless.
You can snag an Athlon II X2 250 for $60 off Newegg and its clocked at 3Ghz, and it has twice the L2 cache (though this won't generally make much of a difference). Same TDP, too.
