[citation][nom]chris13th[/nom]I stopped believing in Nvidia after my FX5200 took a shit on me. Took my chances with an ATI x700 pro, and I have never looked back.[/citation]

Hah... same thing here.. my FX5600 was a POS.. switched to ATI and have never regretted it since. I know that the FX series cards were not a good showing from Nvidia.. but that experience left me sour. ATI has not let me down. I see people constantly bash ATI drivers.... but I never had any problems, so my ATI experience has been a good one. Running a HD 4850 now, before that a X1950Pro... love em both.

Nice job AMD... Not expecting a whole lot from nvidia this time around either.

They way they're pitching their new GPU and the architecture it sounds more like a visit of the 'ghost of Geforce 5000 past'. Remember those cards that needed a vacuum cleaner to cool them, I hope nVidia doesnt bite off more than it can chew just to get back on top...

This whole notion that ATI is winning due to the DX11 achievement is typical cliched marketing and public perception - same as the megapixel crap in the digital camera industry. I can't wait for real DX11 (even DX10) games to start rolling out, and by that I mean none of this hybrid fakes, but let's face it, nvidia is not behind one bit because of their lack of DX11 hardware, bur rather because they got too comfortable with their old business tactics of simply rebranding frequently and putting out something truly new occasionally; and ATI has pretty much set the current standard of innovation. Nvidia needs to take notice and Fermi better be great, affordable and innovative.

hmm, it's intel whose making us get those AMD CPU's with a nice price, and it's nvidia who can make those hd5XXX GPUs prices nice.

Strange. Is it my imagination or is this a pro-AMD thread. All the "in favor of AMD say yay" have green thumbs up with postive numbes and the "NVidia still rocks" posts have thumbs down with negative numbers?

I recently read an interview on another site with a AMD development guy. According to him, Microsoft and game developers learned a lesson with Direct X 10 and changed how the code works for Direct X 11. With Direct X 10, they had to code the games two different ways in order to have it available for both. Now with Direct X 11 the game can be coded once and it will just not use the advanced options if the hardware was not available. Because of this more and more games in development will be released as Direct X 11. Also according to him, NVIDIA with their partnerships with game developers code certain games to only recognize their hardware to perform better rather than let them code using open standards. He stated it has yet to be seen whether this practice will hurt gaming industry, or just help NVIDIA. Another word in order for FERMI to make a major impact, it has to do what the ATI 4000 series cards did, perform the same at half the price.

Congrats AMD. =) Finally making a profit now as opposed to before the 5000 series.

(Maybe if the also team up with Nvidia as well they can take on Intel)

(Maybe)

There needs to be MORE competition. Matrox or S3 should come out with some serious hardware. A two horse race is less dynamic than a four horse race. Also, the Nvidia TWIMTBP "partnerships" stink of colusion. I still remember how Nvidia got better benchmarks in the 6800 days, by reducing image quality on many levels and other "optimizations". I still remember moving from a 6800 to an x800 and noticing the vast difference in image quality.

UNLEASH THE FANBOYS!

Regardless, nVidia is still regarded as the safe option for those working in 3D. So, as ironic as it may be for AMD to top the charts, nVidia isn't going anywhere until AMD works things out with Maya.

Not to mention, if they've sold 2mil units, then there must not me much of a shortage after all... so why hasn't the price come down to reasonable levels? DX11 isn't going to be enough to justify negligible performance levels above existing models for many people.

On another note, when nVidia DOES come out with their new cards, this will force AMD to lower prices. So, stop getting all gooey about AMD selling an overpriced DX11 card just yet. WHEN they have competition, the smart fanboy can choose which card to use.

Finally, someone with a clue...

DX11 is built off of DX10.1, which was bulit off of DX10, which was built from scratch. THATS why you have to have a separate DX9 path, a DX10 card will take DX11 commands and just not do the fancy dancy DX11 stuff. DX9 has no clue, due to the change in how drivers interact with Windows starting in Vista.

More DX11 cards will be out faster and more likely we will get new DX11 games and eventually patches to bring DX11 to older but popular ones.

As for real DX11 games there should be new AVP coming out in february and more will follow later, and with XP and dx9 phasing out more of new games will came with dx10/11.

What nvidia need is mainly stop ignoring people, rebranding old cards and saying that gamers are not important (after all they getting most of money from them).

if you read about reviews about nvidia's graphic cards, you'll often find the reviewer complaining that nvidia hasn't made a dx 11 card yet and are still in dx 10.1 or so. the reason why is because there really is no need for dx 11, you can have dx 11 and so and so but there is no reason because support and development is getting smaller and smaller as the years go by. gaming on pc has slowed down because microsofts resourses are now on the 360, which means dx 1x on pc isn't a concern any more. this is why nvidia isn't pushing forward for dx 11. where are the pc developers that are pushing for dx 11? it's a very small list and most people don't care except for the few and those few will eventually be gone. dx 9 and dx 10 is the peak at the moment and no one complained when they were running left 4 dead on dx9.

2 million? Damn.
Good job ATI.

Assuming I'm not completely broke over the next few month, I'll sell my 4870, buy two 5770's, and a third monitor.
And they also give us EyeInfinity over Crossfire...

Microsoft is developing liek 0.001% in ammount of games for PC so i dont see reason why would you thing that M$ prefering xbox have any effect at all in games development and developers even complain about high royalties they have to pay them to be allowed to develop games for xbox.

Consoles are and at least for some time will be crappy for any FPS and strategy games not even mentioning MMOs. They are better for arcade or sport games but PC gaming still have edge.
Maybe one of reasons why some games for PC sell in smaller quantities then on xbox or any other consoles is that some of them are poor conversion or have some annoing protection that makes PCs cranky.

Also why would developers make games for DX11 if there is no DX11 hardware in either PCs or xbox ? So ati and Nvidia have to sell 1st lots of dx11 cards before we will be seeing dx11 games on daily basis.
