I'd rather buy one of these than to buy a PS5 Pro. The only issue is the timing of the RTX 5 Series GPU's. As those are expected to drop early next year and could easily turn into the middle of next year. I'm looking to build this time instead of going the pre-built route. I seriously doubt HP, Lenovo or Alienware will offer the X3D series chips. Perhaps Corsair but that will probably turn into a $4,000+ machine.

If you're ready for a new gaming PC now, I wouldn't worry about RTX 5 series. If it was early 2025, sure, but just as you mentioned, it could actually end up being 6 months from today. Just grab a good holiday deal on a RX 7 series or RTX 4 series and call it a day.

Nah, I can wait for the RTX 5xxx series to appear.

Games are so unoptimized and broken on PC that I would recommend just getting a PS5 Pro.

I played Jedi Survivor yesterday, and I got a bug preventing me from attacking enemies, healing or saving... my keyboard and my mouse lost half of their inputs.

And you take games like Alan Wake 2 and Wukong running barely at 1080p with Ray Tracing on a 4090...

And we are not talking about windows crippling performances like demonstrated lately.

This is the state of PC gaming, and you need to be a fool to think it is a better experience.

Really looking forward how AMD will fumble this one.

Because, come on. We all know AMD will do something to trip itself and screw this launch.

Regards.
If Intel cannot match the 14900k gaming performances with Arrow Lake, which is already slower than the 7800x3D and even the 9700x, then there is no chance in hell that the 285k can beat the 9800x3D in gaming even with 0% performance increase over the 7800x3D.

I already have a PS5. The minimal performance gains of the PS5 Pro are not worth the $800 asking price when I add a disc drive and vertical stand. I’ll wait for the PS6 instead.

The games I have played have been rather good on my aging gaming rigs. It seems most of the egregious offenders have been Sony games ported to the PC.

Both AMD and Intel have a problem with their respective launches: cheap-ish 7800X3Ds and 5700X3D/5800X3D.

AMD needs to think really hard on the price, otherwise it'll be another value clowns launch like Zen5 was.

3D is, first and foremost, a gaming CPU and value is king there. So I'd expect AMD will be able to read the room from all the Zen5 criticism. Unlikely given recent past history.

At least, I hope they now know how to test :D

Regards.

The vast majority of buggy crap games on PC are also buggy crap games on consoles. Since you mentioned jedi survivor and performance, jedi survivor drops to 648p and 30 fps on the ps5. Nto really a good experience

The 9700x is slower than an i5

That's a bit of an exaggeration right there. At 1080p Ultra settings + Path Tracing, a 4090 can easily handle both Alan Wake 2 and Black Myth: Wukong, hitting as much as 90 and more than 100 FPS respectively.

Perhaps you meant 4K?

To be fair a PS5 Pro is only 699. and these projected CPUs basically cannot be fit into a PC at that price and performance bracket. Unless you are spending 1000+ on a PC for gaming you mind as well get a console these days.

Definitely can't agree here... and would be glad to post an OBS recording if there's any doubt. I've heard a lot of similar complaints but it hasn't been my experience at all. Alan Wake 2, MSFS2020, CP2077, Jedi Survivor, Outlaws, Diablo 4... those are the titles I've played the most lately... and all perform flawlessly in 4K Ultra with my 9950X and 4090.

Or the guys complaining are running a 7 year old CPU with a 3080. I saw a YouTuber a few months back when Jedi Survivor was released post a video calling his 2017 CPU "up to date."

Half of those games, yeah.

As for the other half... Well... it largely depends on the settings.

At 4K Ultra Path Tracing, without the use of DLSS and Ray Reconstruction, Alan Wake 2 will hit 30-32 FPS, with a maximum of 40-42, depending on the location. It requires a combination of DLSS+Frame Generation, in order to be rendered playable.

Same goes for Cyberpunk: at native 4K Ultra Path Tracing, it will only hit 22-24 FPS.

And the unlocked Outlaw settings of Star Wars: Outlaws, also require DLSS+FG for a smooth gameplay.

Can't wait until 5090 hits the market :ROFLMAO:

I just built a 800$ PC (786$ to be exact) on PC part picker with a 7700xt and a 12400f. Ready to buy right now. The 699 for PS5 pro is MSRP, doesn't include vat.

But that's not an argument for getting a console, cause no console can run Path Tracing at 4k ultra (or at 1080p) anyways.

Yeah I think I remember the CP2077 demo that brought my 4090 to its knees with 20 something fps. I run with RT on and don't use DLSS and honestly don't really notice the differences with RT on or off... IMHO the new PT is somewhat of a gimmick intended to sell more GPUs.

I haven't experienced any slowdowns to make me turn off RT. I don't believe I've tried the PT yet... haven't changed my CP2077 settings in forever so it's probably off.

Either way... point remains the same. Running/not running RT/PT is not a game making/breaking experience IMO.

It's more of an argument to get a 5090.

"Yeah my 4090 does everything great in 4K Ultra EXCEPT for PT... so I need a 5090!"

Of course. I totally agree. It wasn't meant as an argument for buying a console.

Besides, last time i bought a console, was like 16 years ago, with Xbox 360.

Definitely wouldn't buy one right now.

Wouldn't recommend it to anyone else either.

There's so much more you can do with a PC.

I don't personally consider VAT because I have never had to pay a VAT. A 12400f and a 7700xt is roughly equivalent in performance, though the 12400f is a slower CPU, and you still have to build the PC, warranty individual parts, diagnose, test, desk, mouse, keyboard, and buy an OS if you want desktop backgrounds or use Linux which is limiting is some respects. I would personally want more than that out of a PC over a console if I was not already sucked into a pc gaming setup.

I assume your build was something akin to this:

PCPartPicker Part List

Yes, though went with cheaper case and psu. The cpu is fine, definitely faster than whatever zen iteration is on the console.
