I've seen three Videos thus far where there was a Fail. One person went so far as to bend a half dozen pins on the Motherboard and then went on to bend a dozen more trying to unbend the first set. It was at that point he realized to admit defeat.

I saw two Videos where people were obviously careful not to risk electrostatic discharge and a few where they simply touched everything. It should be interested on Benchmark Day (the 10th?) to see how many get it up and running.

Was this a Free Press Kit or was a nominal fee charged for this few thousand dollars worth of equipment?

I certainly hope that all of the plastic and foam packaging material is ESD-safe. It would be ironic if people ended up killing their $600+ CPUs with ESD from handling its packaging.

You made my day :)

DHL has sourced out a lot of drivers in Germany. The quality of their service is really poor and not worth the money. You get what you paid for. And to be honest: for less than 10 Euro per hour nobody can do a quality job. Welcome in the reality :)

who cares about boxes! it's like when you bring a hot woman home....you tear off the packaging with your teeth like a wild animal carefully not to damage the contents! i want benchmarks! will she work FOR ya like the wild animal we SUSPECT her to be...or go... Have at me you filthy techie...try to make me growl...

Then they should come to balkans where you are paid 20$ per day (10 hours or work).

When you're coming back from the depths AMD was in, that packaging displays confidence and boldly announces that what's inside is a game changer for them. If so, it's good for all of us. We shall see :)

It currently takes me 120 minutes to run Monte Carlo on my Xeon E7 12 cores. I am so hoping AMD can offer something better.

Do you run the Monte Carlo simulations for business purposes or just because you like to? (No, seriously, some people just do.) If it's for business purposes, can you justify buying a dual- or more socket board and more CPUs? Would two 12C/24T E7s + a board + RAM provide you with a better ROI, if not perhaps better absolute performance, than two 12C/32T Threadrippers + a board + RAM?

Looking at CPU installation videos, I think putting a clip-on cover on the socket on top of the slide-in cover in the CPU alignment guide seems redundant and potentially dangerous. Seems to me like it would have been better to put the pin protector in the CPU guide where people can firmly grab it by the pull handle just like the CPU. I can imagine quite a few sockets getting ruined by people being clumsy with the clip-on cover meant to protect it.

I agree. It did look a little awkward getting that protector out. I also think that it is redundant to have what looks like 2 protectors for the CPU slot.

Another thing here is that i9 7900x will kill 16 Core Thread Ripper in gaming, one could argue that Intel is more balance solution all around Gaming vs Content Creation. If you are more into gaming i would say Intel is better for you. Can't wait for benchmarks. Yes, Thread Ripper will kill Intel 10/20 in Cinebench, but i really don't play Cinebench or use it for professional work. It is tough call honestly.

Good to see that AMD is stirring the pot. This amounts to a little competition which has been needed for a long time.
Suddenly Big-Blue is taking an interest in innovation and furthering CPU technology.

You and I are the ultimate winners.

How about we, as you say further on in your post, wait for benchmark results before saying things like that?

IBM has always has an interest in innovation and furthering CPU technology. ;-)

It will be quite funny when we see i3 8300 4/8 Processor outperforming entire Ryzen and Thread Ripper family in gaming costing only $150.

If that was in response to the i3-8300 post, a quad-core i3 doesn't sound far-fetched when the i5 is going to be hex-core. I'd say we're WAY overdue for that level of performance to drop down closer to the $100 price point and Ryzen 1400 got us ~40% of the way there.

Not too sure about what Intel is going to do with it pricing-wise though. I wouldn't be surprised if Intel raised prices to go with the core/thread count bumps. That would translate into Pentiums entering current i3 pricing brackets, i3s migrating towards i5 pricing, i5 closer to i7 and i7 going up $75-100.

Nice! I was actually cracking a joke about DHL over here in America - I had no idea if it would actually apply to DHL in Germany. Good to know it's a worldwide phenomenon! The main advantages of DHL are that they're cheap and relatively fast. The downsides are package condition/abuse and lack of consistency with regards to arrival date/time. Don't ever ship a mechanical HDD via DHL unless you want it DOA.

Ah yes, the "Youtubers are incompetent at basic real world tasks" theorem.
