AMD to Make 65nm Announcement Next Week

AMD already admitted defeat a while ago in their interview.
AMD's 65nm is just trying to close the gap to Intel.

Wow, you're even LESS educated than what I previously thought, are you some 14-year old? Seriously Wusy, what happened? Weren't you ever right on something?

AMD was keeping right up with Intel @ 130nm vs. their 90nm, same goes with AMD's 90nm vs. 65nm, now when AMD reaches 65nm, Intel will be foced to use 45nm and have to double-time to 32nm to keep up, oh and of course they have to slash prices on their less-performing CPU's as well.

AMD never admitted defeat, AMD stated it was caring more about the Mobile and Server market, because the Desktop is owned currently by K8 and Conroe, as much as everybody loves those Intel benchmarks, still can't keep up with K8.

The five part interview Digitimes had with AMD executive vice president Henri Richard blew it all out.

It was so clear after what AMD saw Conroe was capable they knew it would be a catch up game whether they like it or not. At least the performance gap is nowhere near what we have today between A64 and Netburst.

It all about keeping about the market price down and that's what really matters not who wins.

If you remember Tom's video, he shows Intel chip just throttle down in speed and AMD just goes up in smoke. My, how quickly you guys forget.

And that translates to: Damn, I got pwned and haven't got anything to prove other than blab some nonsense.

If you have a high enough IQ to interpret that interview with Henri Richard, he did not show any signs of upcoming processors in the roadmap that could overtake Conroe. The best they can do is match its performance, even then the performance/W is higher.

Performance fanboys don't give a flying F*ck about which company wins like you fanboys do. Live with it.

What ever happened to the intelligent, respectful-of-others-opinions posters? Though I'd have to side with Wusy on this one :wink: .
 
Sorry there bud, but the CPU has nothing to do with whether you have to reinstall the OS or not. The only difference that the OS sees between any architecture-compatible chips are the different chipsets and their drivers. And AMD does not make very many chipsets anymore, so it would be debating the relative stabilities of NVIDIA, ATI, Intel, SIS, VIA, and ULi drivers and chipsets. Ditto for hard drive arrays- they have nothing to do with the CPU at all and software RAID is controlled by the operating system.

I'll throw down some green for an AMD faster than MMM.....as soon as they have something that impresses me. I've always been able to match any current AMD offering with an Intel @ 1/3 of the cost with a little push and some good cooling.

Actually, regarding the Henry Richard's interview, if you read Part 1, it specifically states that the interview took place at some point in the past when Richard's was in Taiwan, it is likely he interviewed before seeing the Conroe benches....


LOL. Funny how you girls can always find some angle or conspiracy. You will not see any man in his position in this industry making UNEDUCATED statements or remarks. PERIOD He knows EXACTLY what his competition is doing.

That was an old K7 as i recall.

I have had a fan fail quite drastically on an Skt 754 Sempron (K8). As in drastically - it fell off!!

However, it didn't actually cause any damage to the CPU, at all.

This was in a PC i built for someone, so it was a week till I got to fixing it for them, and they insisted on still trying to switch it on and each time it just turned off.

Sorted fan, and a year down the line it is still fine. No smoke, nothing.
Current AMD chips are,imo are great quality chips. I think the reputation they had in the past for being cheap and nasty (which I would agree with, esp. with K7 :wink: ) is undeserved at this present time.

If it's Opteron 200 / 800 series for S940 on 65nm, maybe more cores, more cache, higher clock speed.... (Apps that only run a single isolated thread tend to suck at 2 GHz 🙁 )

I could sure go for an 8-way in a box and higher single threaded application performance to boot. Aswell as less heat = less fan noise. That would be cool. 8)

Very funny ass munch. I don't plug it in unless I need a food warmer or or my other three machines are all being used. Even then, I'd pull out the AGP 3.0 P4 that shares closet space before that.

Well you where very dumb for doing it. So hay act dumb and have your computer in the computer

Either make a valid point with dialogue that won't make my eyes bleed from reading it... or don't post. I may really like the new look of these boards, but I'm really beginning to dislike the new elements that have been attracted here as a result. I'm all for new people joining the community... but in a constructive manner.

I really miss P4Man. As much as I've disagreed with him, he was at least intelligent and new how to get his point across without making himself look like a drooling idiot.
 
Just make a Firefox plugin that auto clicks ignore on the ones you want to filter out.

One click, per name, per thread.

Boom, all their posts for that thread are 'minimized' to an ignored state. Often if it was worth reading someone will quote it anyway.

Ummm....yeah U still don't get it. Its not ON in the closet. It's not even plugged in. Never was. It's being stored because I have no use for it.

I agree 100%. Where is the intelligent discussion on why AMD is so great and Intel sucks? Lots of emotional hear-say and generalization but no real proof. If there was I'd have no problem admitting it. Show me something that can be done with an AMD I can't do with an Intel for less money?

Intel has yet to release ANYTHING that can beat AMD.
With such comments this forums credibility is slowly going down the drain.
 
This whole fanboy thing is outta whack , we build systems with both amd and intel and (usually) you can state that a newer product will be somewhat better than an older one.

If your cpu is old , a new one might be better for you.

This goes up for both companies.

Pricing in my neck of the woods makes it that price/performance wise for the moment AMD wins , which reflects in about a 70/30 % sales of AMD/Intel .

As for the enthusiasts that put down a lot of green : whatever they buy will be a good kit : doesnt matter what brand , as long as you pay too much for it it will run pretty much every program you want it to .

The question we hear mostly here from people who want to buy new kit is : "should i go intel or amd ? "

The answer is simple : "take a gig of memory , dont go sempron or celeron and spend as much as possible on your vga card"

AND : if you are still on an old monitor spend money on a good screen , THAT is what you will be looking at no matter what is in your box , the money you spend now on your screen you will save on your glasses later on.

Or in short : if you dont have all the money in the world : buy what best reflects your needs .
I you DO have too much money , what the heck , buy both !!
or just pay someone to do your computer tasks and take a long long trip to somewhere with lots of sunshine and no computers.
