Hello,

I'm planning on purchasing one of the upcoming amd APUs. Does anybody know when the desktop models come out and is there any disadvantages using an integrated gfx card together with an APU? (Dual GPU)

Solution
OK, so i would suggest waiting for the top A10 apu and seeing what the best gpu that can be combined is. I have a similar set up currently with a A8 and a 6670. To my surprise it has quite a bit of horsepower in Crossfire! Plus the 7XXX series card are really energy efficient.
Supposedly there coming some time in August 2012 .....Hopefully this is true. The mobile ones were released last month.

As fro the disadvantages, it would depend if its for a HTPC or a gaming pc?

Ok, thx for your input. I was considering using one of the 7xxx series to be the one to use in DUAL-GPU setup. The energy efficiency is one of my main concerns. I presume FM2 slot motherboards will have an option to suspend the discrete GFX-card when not needed to drop idle power consumption?? The case will be micro-atx HTPC-case so heat issues must be taken into notice also. One more question remains... Should the discrete card's performance match the APU's graphics performance?? In other words will a powerful discrete card be bottlenecked by the APU? That seems to be the thing with two discrete cards...?

Well to be honest the CPU part of the apu isn't gonna be very power in comparison to a say FX performance series so i don't think bottleneck will be any issue at all. As fro the power management for the trinity well have to wait and see, if its like current day crossfire on the 7 series it actually shuts off the secondary card until needed.

Yes, CPU probably not very powerful. If it manages to run games and movies that'll be more than enough for me. More powerful CPU would just be an overkill for my purpose. Are there any estimated prices of the APUs?

I wouldnt try to speculate the price until some time late in July. :) But i would say similar to what they were when Llano came out.
