AMD VIRTUAL SUPER RESOLUTION (VSR) safe to use?

I have a 1080p 60Hz Monitor and I just checked the VSR on the Crimson RADEON settings,by enabling it I can change the desktop and in-game virtual resolution up to 4k but when I do I hear a little rattling sound coming from the card itself(rx 480 8gb).Is it normal or am I damaging my video card?

Theoretically it will not cause any harm to your hardware.
Perhaps the fans are working harder, causing a bit of extra noise.
Try opening the case to see what exactly causes the noise when you run at 4K. Maybe something is loose somewhere etc.

Hmm.. Open MSI Afterburner and increase your fan speed over 60% and see if you're hearing the same noise.

Just did that and its not coming from the fan,however I noticed the same sound at 1080p so I guess its the ''normal'' for AMD
btw it happens only when I open a game

I think I see the image more blurish at 4k than 1080p..which is controversial to what the purpose of this feature really is supposed to be

Well I can tell you if I set my Sapphire radeon Nitro fury card to a VSR of 4K

Then run Rise Tomb Raider, it forces the fans of my card to ramp up in speed Ghost.
And does much the same for every other game set with a VSR of 4K setting.

It does put more load on the card in respect to the Gpu processing power required.

Just out of intrest what sort of frame rate results are you getting from a RX 480 card at a VSR of 4k ?

I would like to do a comparison of it between the RX 480 and my Nitro Fury if you could post the FPS results.
And some in game graphical detail settings you are running.

PS: your card may run a bit hotter, I know mine does only a few Oc though.

well the rx 480 isnt a 4k card like fury,I would consider this a 1080p/1440p card,
anyway I dont know how they optimize the VSR but I am getting blurred details on 1440p and 4K for some reason,other than that on 4K I had a solid 60 fps on pretty much every game I tested on low settings and BF1 all low except mesh quality on ultra.Maybe it can handle some games close to medium settings with few adjustments and .cfg files,all that with the I5 6600k @ 4.2
