I went out and bought an abit KT7-A motherboard, then approached AMD uk for a 'C' class athlon. Linda Peacock at AMD tells me that 'c' class athlons have all gone out and are available...Can I find one..no bloody chance. So I am told to approach an amd stockist and get them to enquire of the amd distributor, to enquire of AMD if I can please have a 'c' class processor.
Listen AMD...I want to buy a processor WITHOUT HASSLE....It is up to YOU to get them to the stockists....UNDERSTAND!!!

Oh and Flashpoint (AMD distributors) next time I ask for the name of an end supplier so I can order a processor it is not an excuse for you to put the phone down on me...Slough is not far enough away for you to get lippy. and now everyone here knows you are lippy too.

Simply Computers...Train your sodding staff...If I know about L1 Bridges then the least you can do is to find out about the product you are selling...If I want to know whether they are closed or not, I shouldn't have to drive all the way down there and buy one to find out!!!

My kt7-A does not support the athlon 'B' at 7.5 x 133 for 1Ghz...so it's all going back to the supplier....Thanks for nothing AMD.

That's strange, mine posted at 7.5 x 133 (after closing the L1 bridges of coarse) no problem. The first time I booted it up was at this speed setting. I have the same board and a 1GHz 'B' T-Bird as well. Everything has worked near perfect on my system so far (I built it last week).
I ran it at 1.23GHz (8.5*145) for the first few days trying to burn it in with various CPU stress/torture tests, but I had intermittent lockup so I clocked it back to 1.19GHz(140*8.5) and it seems to be running very stable now.
It just smokes the benchmarks.

Here are my system specs:
KT7A RAID
1GHZ TBIRD@1.19GHz w/Global Win FOP32-1 (24c idle, 38-45c under load)
256mb Crucial PC133@140 cas2
Voodoo3 3000 agp (major bottleneck now, waiting for the NV20 to arrive and prices to drop on current highend)
30gb IBM Deskstar (going to add another later for RAID 0 configuration)
Pioneer 16x DVD
Soundblaster Live (only thing that gave me any trouble, Highpoint controller doesn't get along with SB 16 emulation)

So far I am very pleased with this system.
 
it's amazing, my friends go to local computer show and most dealers will not sell a boxed t-bird if you don't buy a bare bones first!

...my friends see the t-birds retail boxes all over but dealers wont sell them! seems pretty wierd.

After paying 5 bucks for a show they walk out empty handed!!!

I laughed at them!
go to your local computer show and watch all the shananigans that go on!

Amd UK told me it had released the 'C' Athlon, Linda Peacock is their main sales distributor in the uk...but that all the supplies had been bought up..so I looked for a supplier....

Well that's not really my fault, and remember AMD are known for poor supply...I would have thought they might want to put that behind them. It really does put people off, they could bury Intel...but not like this.

Amd may have had their supply foul ups, but do you remember trying to get a 1ghz p3 or 1.13 ghz p3 (before they got recalled)? It took Intel forever to get up to speed. With this latest exception AMD chips have been easy to get since the release of the athlon 500 classic and on. In all fairness most of Intel's chips are readily available too. My point is don't worry they'll come out soon. And the longer it takes you to be able to get them, the cheaper they generally get.

Very strange. What is the original clock speed of the CPU? I've got mine clocked at 933mhz (7x133) right now. But, when i game I bring it up to 1ghz no problem. It's supposed to be a 800mhz t-bird.

come on dude they are no different to Intel , it takes time to get to the retailers, where have you tried to get one from ?? have you tried <A HREF="http://www.scan.co.uk" target="_new">http://www.scan.co.uk</A> or purchased a micro mart? if you have then sit tight and they will be along soon....

Broggie, you sound like a little Punk Bitch that cannot get his way! Too bad for your CPU. I have not run across a Duron or TBird that will not run at 133mhz FSB on my Abit-KT7A motherboard. Here are the CPU's I have sucessfully clocked to a 133mhz FSB and the speed I achieved. Duron 700 @ 933, Duron 800 @ 1000, Tbird 900 @ 1066, Tbird 1.2Ghz @ 1370mhz (136mhz FSB x 10)!. Quit your bitching, and clean off the pencil marks, and try again with a better conductive pencil. I have found normal wooden pencils to do OK, but the best are drawing pencils (2B, 4B, etc...) with soft lead and more graphite. If it still will not go to 133mhz FSB, you are either a dumbass, or incredibly unlucky person on the pick of CPU you got! Either way, quit crying on the forum, this is a place for people to post problems, find solutions, etc... but not complain about AMD UK's problems! You could just forget all of the L1 Bridge crap, and buy a 1.2Ghz CPU, as the L1 bridges are already connected on the CPU by AMD with the nice little trace of gold on them, allowing full freedom with the CPU. My 1.2Ghz can go from 500mhz to 1370mhz on bus speeds of up to 140mhz. So as you see from all these posts, you are wasting your time bitching about it, as solutions have been presented by others and me.
 
You don't buy processors from AMD, you buy processors from their resllers, who buy them from their distributers. AMD and its distributers are not responsible for their reseller's hours, so why were you asking them about them to begin with? They're also not your personal research assistant. Why don't you do your own legwork to find what you need, rather than demanding someone else do it for you and then pissing about them doing a halfassed job? The average distributer I talk to doesn't know what a 'C' stepped Athlon is right now, since they're only beginning to enter the reseller stream. If you knew anything, you'd know to expect an uninformed cashier. What you COULD do is open up the box in the store and verify it is a 'C' stepped processor before shelling out your money. If you don't know how to do this, how can you expect your supplier to? Also, not being a complete jerk usually increases your chances of getting what you need. Coming off as an arrogant elitist bastard just makes them WANT to screw you. Even if you do end up with a regular Athlon (are Duron's even available with a 'stock' 133MHz FSB?), no one else that I have talked to has had any problems unlocking and upping the FSB, so you are probably just incompetent. Go read some more how-to's and try your luck again.
