Hey im looking towards the future and I'm eyeing the AMD 8 core bulldozer CPU'S coming down the line. I'v seen some source say there going to use a AM3+ Socket and im wondering if that means youll be able to toss one in a current AM3+ compatible board?
Will my current http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130297&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Motherboards+-+AMD-_-MSI-_-13130297 msi 870A Fuzion work i noticed just now that its a AM3 not a AM3+ I'm guessing that means ill need a new mother board cause the sockets are comparable?

That "market" is no different from any other market. Not all software makes the best use of 24 cores - some of the tests in that link didn't even make use of 12 cores. How is a lower clocked 24 core server supposed to perform against a higher clocked 12 core server when the workloads are only optimised for 12 cores?

The result of this scaling is that for once, you can notice which CPUs have real cores vs. ones that have virtual (Hyper...

The current BD was never postponed. The original BD was cut from the roadmaps and didn't come back until after PHII was out.

Technically even with Bulldozer, AMD will still be behind by more than a year in process maturity. Plus 22nm already looks AMAZING. 3.8GHz @ less than a volt? I think it was 0.95v for the 22nm SRAM @ 3.8GHz. It makes me wonder how high it will clock stock and then overclock.

Plus the IGP will be a shrink as well which will lower power consumption and Intel could possibly double the units in the GPU and therfore possibly double the power along with raise the clocks of it as well increaseing its performance again.

Plus we will see a bit about Ivy Bridge in May too and it will be drop in support for H67, P67 and Z68.

I have $800 to upgrade with. In other words CPU + Mobo + Ram.

Lol if they don't exist, there will be a monopoly, which is illegal. And I do not know what would happen then.

There needs to be more competition in the x86 high performance computing industry OR windows needs to start supporting other architectures that can push themselves to start performing in that range.

AMD has been relying on k8/10 ever since it was the best. Unfortunately, they still cannot compete in the high end. This may not appear to be an issue but it is for the consumer. It caused intel to not have to push out their more powerful and newer i7s so quickly due to lack of competition. I'm sure if AMD had been able to release a faster architecture sooner, we would have been seeing core i5s at stock 3.8GHz turbo to 4.5GHz.

Look at what AMD is doing to compete in the mid-high end. Their Phenom IIs are now clocked stock much closer to the max overclock consumers have achieved within reasonable temperatures. (3.5GHz). Obviously, AMD has a more stringent process for testing stability and binning the processors for certain frequencies.

I am not impressed with it. Is a power hog (375w) and puts heat back in the case. Thats not a win for me.

$4.8 Billion. And soon after they bought ATI it dropped in value a lot.

Even though I still think ATI is fantastic.
