With Nvidia bringing out nothing but rehashes and intel happy to sit on their asses blocking the ION outright I think AMD has a sporting chance in '11 in the notebook sector. Desktop replacements however, that's IMHO still Intel's territory.

i can't wait for benchmakrs. I'm hopeful for the technology to be a success but wary abotu it not beating seprate gpu/cpu setups and maybe not even having a better cost .. btu hopefully i'll be wrogn and it'll be awosme i'll buy one it so as soon as the desktop chips come out bout time to upgrade my socket 754

In anyway the notebook department is the area where Intel has had biggest lead, so It is guite good sign that they try to challenge intel it that area. This can mean faster, cheaper notebooks in near future!
The problem is again Intel production technology lead. They can produce chips cheaper in smaller size than AMD for guite a long time. So this will not be an free ride to AMD even I am guite sure that the build in GPU is something that Intel can not touch in short run.

I remember reading some speculation a while back that the GPU section of the Llano does not have to be used for graphics. They where talking about how the PS3 Cell processor and CUDA functions, and the CPU cores could use Stream processing of the attached GPU for data processing.

it's not speculation, it's part of AMD's road map, they refer to it as an APU (all purpose Processing Unit) exactly similar to how Fermi's CUDA is setup except fully integrated into a CPU, designed to decimate repetetive intensive task

i would hazard that if they manage to get this equation right it's going blow intel out the waters, because an APU is going be cheaper cost, real estate and thermal wise to implement

looks like we found ourselves the classic Intel/nVidia fanboi. AMD is definitely not dead, their graphics cards are almost a generation ahead. The GTS 450 was just recently released to compete with the 5700 series, a card thats pretty much a year old, and the 5700 series still beats it. The cpu market may be slightly different Sandy Bridge is probably not supporting overclocking, and only has Sli/Xfire at x8. This will really make people think about using Intel for multi GPU configs, and will be a win for AMD

Intel fanboys better shut there mouths. Without AMD dealing in the netbook's soon Intel will have the slow ATOM processor at the same price and speed for another 10 years on there net books. There are only two big processor companies and there is a reason there are only two! I respect AMD for being in that fast pace aggressive market where one day of sleeping your out!

uhhh helllloooooo what do you think ATI was all about for the last 20 years, only reason they weren't bought up by Nvidia or left in the dust with guillemont was they were making money at what they did best, business graphics.

what about memory bandwidth and its effect on gaming. What type of memory does llano even use? ddr4 or ddr3? It's most likely going to be ddr 3 and so gaming performance will probably see a big hit. And im not talking about gddr.

Even though I am an AMD fan I think they might have some little problems in the first gen products. It's like when the P4 processor cam out from INTEL It was slow at first because the pipeline was too big for what it had. The first cycle from AMD will be more of look at what we can do and here is the proof. AMD will one day take the speed crown but for now I would rather save money and take a little speed hit which isn't noticeable lol. If it wasn't for AMD Crysis would be at 10fps

lead for what ??? the lano chip is a mix of gpu adn cpu , intel nixed thier gopu development they certainly arnt set up to add gpu functionality to their cpus, so again how does the release date of this give intel any thing ?

Doesnt matter if it costs half as much yet delivers a better graphics solution and comparable processing power at that price point. Its a NetBook... How fast does it need to go to check email and surf the web.

Now these OEM's can sell a netbook for less with a bright sexy screen with fairly high resolution that will run most videos and simple games with out any lag. Should also be a good solution for the HTPC market which is growing and poor college students who could care less about crysis and creep on facebook all day.

Unless youre running a high end server application or playing a crazy state of the art game that hasnt been biff'd for the console market then there's really no need to have the fastest horse in the stable.

If its cheaper and works most users wont care whose label is on the box...

Now to the chip, I thought that SandyBridge also included a gpu, so how does this advance AMD's efforts to close the gap on Intel? It is that Llano will provide greater perfomance that the SB graphics?

I haven't been following this too closely lately and I am still more interested in desktops and separate graphics cards than in notebooks or netbooks.

I want to buy a net book but I'm not going to spend $300 that's just stupid. AMD should have one that is quicker then Intel's and priced hopefully at $200. Then of course INTEL will drop there price as well.
