I did i7-970 to Zen 2 3800X in like 2019 was on the older platform for about 10 years longest i've ever kept a rig.
It is interesting how much longer a computer can last now. Had my 11 year old 4770k been able to take 64GB RAM I would still be using it. However, my desktop I built in 2003 (Athlon XP 3000+ with 1GB RAM) was pretty much useless for gaming and a lot of other tasks by 2008.

Technology advances. I remember late 1990's my 75mhz Pentium was outdated before I got it home from the store.

I was upgrading phones every year from 2011-2016... then went every 2 years and now I just upgraded a 3 year old phone with 256GB storage to a 1TB Pro Max with the fancy camera that I really don't care about.

Plan is 5 years out of this phone... and longer out of the new PC build and laptop. Hardware is just too good nowadays.
