Does anyone know how to find out the most recent BIOS version released? I have a MSI B450 tomahawk board, with AMI version 1.70, released in march 2019. MSI Live update told me that I have the most recent version, but it being over 3 years old I was skeptical and started digging around. Turns out I can't find very much info just simple googling. Anyone know I can find the most recent AMI bios version and info about it?

Is MSI live update (which is a difficult download to find) accurate? Why did it tell me I have a up to date bios version?
if you have a B450 Tomahawk(NOT Tomahawk MAX), then you'll find the BIOS for it on the link. I'm not sure why MSI Live gave you wrong info. I looked around and a lot of people have had issues with that software and I think it's not worth installing.

On this link for your motherboard, in the Support->BIOS Section you'll find the BIOS revisions. Latest revision is from 2022. This page should also have drivers for other devices i.e Audio Drivers. You should be installing them as well if you haven't.

If you have NO issues and don't need any features introduced in the new BIOS revisions, probably don't bother updating it. If you do decide to update, make sure you don't lose power while doing it or it could brick your system.

Concur that there's no reason to update BIOS unless:
  • There's a problem that you can't fix in the OS side, is an issue that a lot of people had (like AMD's USB bug), and someone's reported that a later version fixed it
  • You need a feature that a later version has. The most common "feature" is CPU support
And while it may be tempting to update because the release notes say something like "improved stability" or "improved performance", nobody's actually verified these things.
