An $89 Pentium Dual Core that Runs at 3.2 GHz

For the record, I have had several different platforms with that cold boot issue. It almost always centered around an attached USB device and removal of the device at boot time always seemd to work. It is a hassle, because you would think the settings in the Bios would provide some sort of workaround. I always thought the board saw the USB and was trying to boot from it, but the bios settings were set such that was not the case.

Oh and by the way, I like that Gigabyte DS3L board, good bang for the buck.
 
Well, I have a P4 3.2EE 478 socket that cost 1,000.00 and outbenches everything.

Oh wait, this is nearly 2008 and my CPU isn't even on the benchmark roster anymore!

This will be the case with all of these current chips we are bickering about now so none of this will even matter in 12-24 short months.

Although I can agree some of this is fun info it should be taken with a grain of salt...

 
You're singing my song, englandr. 3.2 P4, 2.5 years strong. Now if only I can find a good deal on the elusive 3.4 478 Prescott I'd have the ultimate rig. LOL
 
Does the are you saying the 965P-DS3 has the cold boot issue or the P35-DS3P? Coz you linked a motherboard that isn't even in the toms article :heink:

I wonder if the P35-DS3 (the one I'm looking at) has a cold boot issue.
 
Sorry for the confusion, I meant that the motherboards in this range has cold boot problems. the P35-DS3 is also well documented to have cold boot issues, as does mine. However, as mentioned after unpluging the USB hardware(s) it disappears. other than that the motherboard is fine and seems to be performing rather well. May I ask how most of you have configured your ram? I have the P35-DS3, E2160 and Adata DDR2 800 ram (http://www.adata.com.tw/adata_en/product_show.php?ProductNo=AD2800U). I left the ram on auto (timings settings) and it runs at 7-7-7 ?? I set it back to 5-5-5 and it crashes when i do 100% load for about 0.5 hours. Thanks for your input.

Ummm no. It's got 64-bit technology. I work at Intel, and I package these things on a daily basis. (We do batches ranging from 500 - 10,000.) Right on the box it says it supports 64-bit technology. :heink:
 
am2 motherboards will not support amd quads....you will need an AM2+ or AM3 board ..
p35 boards, some reliable ones are under a 100 dollars , and are able to run intel Quads NOW..

My opinion and 2 cents ,AMD messed up with to many dif pin outs

But, I've ordered the E2180..10 more then the 2160 but has a higher multiplier .. I'll upgrade to the Quad when some programs can us it

Running a 2160 on a DS3L board flawlessly. As of right now Im at 1200 fsb for no reason other then I just want to take it conservative. I cant get over how good it is, Im running a Cooler Master Gemini with 1 120mm fan and it never gets over 30c gaming on WOW for 4+ hours.

Also I believe almost all P35 MB's have the cold boot issue, it deals with the chipset from what I have read on Abit forums.
 
Your Coolermaster PSU for $10 is liable to fry your whole system, good thing it was cheap. I built three Q6600 W/ P35-DQ6 OCed to 3G/1333, none of them have cold boot issues.
 


Most AM2 motherboards WILL support the quad-core phenoms - all they need is a bios update. I regret buying my current motherboard due to a couple of missing features etc (Asus M2A-VM) but with the latest bios update even it supports the phenoms.
 
Thanks to Tom's for the great article. This has been my first computer build and I have the E2160 overclocked to 3.0 GHz presently and have gone as high as 3.1 GHz with no change to the processor voltage and all seems stable. I am currently loading prime 95 (it is currently running some initial tests on my machine) to do more testing to verify stability.

I was hoping I could get some help with memory CAS timings. I am running at 800 MHz memory right now with a GA-P35-DS3P motherboard and A-data extreme DDR2-800 memory which is supposed to be able to have 4-4-4-12 timings. I am currently at 5-5-5-16 according to CPU-Z. I can't find anywhere in the BIOS to adjust this. Could someone clue me in as to what to do. Thanks.
 
Thanks for the quick response. Works great.

Prime 95 is tough on the processors just like they say. 3.1 GHz worked OK doing benchmarks and burn-ins with Sandra, but running one Prime 95 per core rebooted my machine within a few seconds at the stock voltage. 3.0 GHz worked for 1.5 hours without a problem and I stopped I can use my machine for other tasks now. I'll check it over night to see how it works.
 
Yeah, you could lose all of the years of life, if you fry it. :lol:
