LOL, maybe it's one of these old Macs that use PowerPC CPUs?

I am very sceptical of all this, "brand value", nonsense. Seems like politics to me. Dont you think that the true value of a company should be based on its net profits? Is Apple making more money than EXXON, Google or Microsoft? Brand value is fleeting! Just ask AOL, MySpace or Apple.

I don't see why anyone cares about this.

Drug dealers and cartels make even more yet you don't see anyone writing how awesome that is.

[citation]I find it funny how Intel is half of Apple's value... I wonder what Apple would be doing without their CPUs. Or nVidia's graphics. Or Foxconn boards. Or... etc. Have you noticed how readily Apple supports the myth of their uniqueness, trying to avoid mentioning hardware specs as much as possible? Many people seriously DO think that Apple makes their own hardware, and they're wrong.[/citation]

But what would be Intel doing without the other players?

What would MS, HP, ASUS, ARM, Foxconn, Nvidia, AMD, Google or IBM be doing just by themselves?

All the technology companies depend on each other, even when they are rivals. Sometimes they are partners, sometimes they are mostly indifferent or sometimes they fight but they all contribute and move the ecosystem.

Some people do believe Apple do their hardware witch is wrong, but in fact Apple is one of the most rounded software/hardware computer companies. Either way buy or use whatever please you or satisfy your needs.

This brand value calculation is meaningless. It implies that is the price just for the brand name and not the actual company. But in truth if you tried to sell off the name without the company that the actual selling price for most of those companies would be a lot less than the price indicated. I mean who would even pay for HP or Comcast ?

why do you think apple is buying judges all over the world. they are afraid. better hardware in other phones/tablets means people will float away eventually. the 5 people i know who own an ipad only play angry birds on it and paid 600 plus dollars for it. every time i meet some one in person talking about their iphone i talk to them about cheaper, better products

[citation][nom]elbert[/nom]This isn't the value of the company. Just their brand name. IE if Apple wished to sale the apple logo/name. Currently bill gates, due mostly to his Microsoft stock, is worth 53 billion which is more than Apple's brand is worth.http://www.forbes.com/2010/03/09/w [...] intro.htmlHere is the 10 richest companies in the world and Microsoft nor Apple is in the list.http://exploredia.com/10-richest-c [...] orld-2011/[/citation]
Crap! The only 2 that are not gas companies are Wally Mart and Toyota? I mean, I'm not totally surprised, but still, you would think there would be some other big names on the list.

Congrats on bringing better news than this article!

They have perfected the electronic fashion accessory.
Hell no!! unless you do trust them when Apple says they invented the mp3 player or tablets...

No in fact they created the need for their gadgets and did the maximum to stock it in your head while you didn't give a fuck at first! They should have continued with making their 1-button mice since at that time they were not saying the earth was triangle which is now the case :-D

Apple looks like they created a few gods, of which one is an iPod and another is an iPad2. You also need to feed that god with apple softwares, apple chargers and Apple this and Apple that. It's like saying you cannot write on a IBM sheet of paper with a papermate pen cause it will just make paper take on fire on you and void it's warranty!! :-(

I had more crashing macs then pcs 😉

What do you do with a crashing Mac? Chuck it ! And buy a new one.

What do you do with a crashing PC? Fix it, make it work, and save sh*! loads of $$$. Either way, its faster to fix a pc, then to waste $1200+ on a new mac.

Oh ya, my PC has been running vista for 3months+ straight without a crash and without a reboot. My record was 5+ months so far.

When I went to my cousins house with my video camera, he tried to play back pictures on his iBook. But after waiting 45mins for him to play the photos, i took out my netbook, and played back the photos in 5mins. Apple time saver my ass.

Apple does not save you time nor money !!!!

Its so amusing to see the PC fangirls bash Apple. Like I've said before, I think the folks that buy Apple computers view computers as commodities. Like a toaster. Nothing wrong with that. You guys may want to build and tweak your toasters and you may be able to build a cheaper toaster, but that doesn't mean everyone else should want to build their toasters too. As for the cost of Apple's brand of ...toaster, that cost is not expensive to everyone so the folks that don't think its expensive and don't need to tweak it just buy the Apple toaster that meets their functional and design needs. They're not worried about the heating coils. Sheesh. Is everyone here less than 30?

[citation][nom]Kileak[/nom]Proof that the ignorant, uninformed masses outnumber the informed consumers."My Mac can surf the Youtube thing faster than any Intel computer can, the guy at the store said so!"Yep.[/citation]

troll...

Normally, when you grow up, you gotta watch out how much you spend. Spend too much, and you end up in a bad situation... Now, Apple is a perfect example of an overpriced, useless toaster that no one should buy, because the other toaster can do the same job for less money and money doesn't grow on trees, ya know.

Agreed... Choice - nothing wrong with that :)

Okay, understood. ...but everyone doesn't want the lowest cost toaster that can do the same job. I've seen some chrome and brushed metal toasters that look great and toast bread. They cost a bit more than the lower cost toasters. I think its relative to how much you have to spend on the toaster. If say you've only got $10 than yeah, some might think the $80 chrome toaster is a bit over-priced. ...but if that chrome toaster would look just great in your kitchen and the $80 isn't too much for you to spend...

I think that some of the thought process that goes on. I know many don't agree with it. I certainly hope those folks that are buying these more expensive Apple computers aren't going hungry because of it.

[citation][nom]reggieray[/nom]As an owner of several Macs over the years and various PC branded computers during my life like Dell and HP I can say the Macs are they most reliable in hardware and stable OS.[/citation]

your one of these> [citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]There's a sucker born every minute... at least 2 in Apple's case.citation]

Thanks for yet another cowardly generalizations. Hurts you to give credit to the company that created the consumer market for portable computing? Hope you denial doesn't fester to a need to therapy later in life.

Normally when you grow up you stop wasting your time on useless endeavors like building your own computers. Normally, if you have been successful you can afford to buy high performance computers. To say apple computers are slow or underpowered is the dumb. I have both mac and pc laptops and desktops. Older intel macs even run windows far better than PCs of that the same time frame.

It's sad that 8 of the 10 richest are all oil companies.

Troll much? We don't build PCs because it turns out cheaper; we do it because it's fun and gives us exactly what we want. The only thing I can imagine myself doing instead of building PCs when I'll be rich and successful is... building more expensive PCs, that's all. I'm a greedy guy; I have money but I'll only pay if the price is justified 😀 Thus I won't buy a prebuilt Alienware or anything of the sort, plus I don't like their design.

And yes, Apple computers ARE underpowered and the "optimization" of their OS is a MYTH. I worked with a MacBook Air last week and the thing is as fast as my Celeron laptop, and it has a C2D and the SSD... :pfff:

There's a difference in the "value" spoken here.

Microsoft, IBM and GE are all corporations that have patents that add up to potentially hundreds of billions worth. They are also a major driver behind continuous research, especially IBM and GE.

Meanwhile, Apple simply enjoys the technology invented by others and packages it into a slim case with pretty OS on top.

One side does excellent in terms of innovation and discovery but suck with marketing; the other side excels in marketing and advertising but hardly innovates.

I certainly find this funny. So the mac has the same hardware has a normal Intel PC, but it will magically run a lot faster...
I also have a few mac laptops and desktops, including a few pre-intel mac.
An Intel mac will run windows at the same speed as a PC with the same specs, but since macs have a tendency to be more expensive, a similarly priced PC will have faster hardware which will make the PC run windows faster.
