hello everyone,

One day windows started popping up with a few errors. I think one of them said host search protocol failed? something like that. Anyways I restarted to computer and now it cant get back into windows. The monitor works fine, it shows all the bios loading screens, I can even get into the bios setup page. As soon as the windows load screen comes up, there is a flash of a blue screen and it reboots. I cant read what the blue screen says, its way too fast.

To make matters worse however, the mouse and keyboard have no power (except for the first few seconds allowing me into the setup page). I tried with 1 stick of ram in various positions, I checked to make sure all the fans were running. Once it told me that I didnt have a bootable disk and to install windows. Only problem is I cant start the install when it says "press any button to boot from cd/dvd"

Im thinking this isnt (only)a harddrive problem, with the lack of power and the fact that it starts to load windows? I dont know, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Im getting very annoyed :/

" I think one of them said...something like that".

Sorry, how can you expect anyone help you with such little and vague information? If you can write down an error in the future, you'll get much better help... Have you tried tapping the F8 key during boot to get into Safe Mode? With the Blue Screen error and the reported "no bootable disk", you may have a hard drive failing... What do you mean "with the lack of power"? You may want to plug the computer directly into the wall AC, you may have a power strip failing...

You may have to take the machine to you local computer store and pay them to identify your problem, it might save you from getting more annoyed...

I was vague about that piece of information because I didnt think that was a problem at the time, so no I didnt write it down.

and as I said, there is no power in my mouse or keyboard, so I cant tap f8 if I wanted to.

heres what happens when I hit power

-bios loading screen appears with options to enter the boot menu, options, etc. (this is the only time my keyboard works!)
-I have windows in the cd drive, so it says "press any button to boot from cd" Well, I cant press any key because i have no keyboard power. (I have tried 2 keyboards, it doesnt work)
-the next screen shows that windows shut down improperly so it asks if i want to run in safe mode, normal, etc. again, no keyboard, no choosing
-after the time runs out, it trys to start in normal mode, and gets a quick blue screen, reboots.

hope that helps.

Ill repeat, the only time my keyboard works is in the bios options screen (overclock, boot sequence, power, etc) any other screen there is no power in my keyboard.

and its not the power strip, but I plugged into the wall anyways.. no luck

I would try unplugging your HDD, and seeing if you can perhaps start up in a Linux live CD. I don't know how your BIOS is set up, but you may want to see if you can change the boot order to boot from CD first. Then you may be able to reinstall Windows. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try another keyboard either.

CD is first in the boot order. the problem is I cant "press any key to boot" so it skips the cd step and goes onto the hdd. Unplugging the hdd just gave me a message that said there was nothing to boot. also, Ive tried multiple keyboards.

Is this a motherboard issue not giving power through the usb ports? although there is power in the beginning but it stops suddenly. I figure I need to solve the keyboard issue before I can do anything else.
