[citation][nom]Browser[/nom]Yes it is actually a fun game, it's just that it's had such a marred release. I've only finished the first few missions / few hours because I figured I'd wait for the patches to come out before really digging into it.Once the glitches are sorted out it will be a great game, though id software really dropped the ball on the PC version at release time. It's like they paid little to no specific attention for the PC, which is shocking and disappointing especially from id software. To make it worse I don't buy their claims of blaming drivers for pretty much everything and then releasing patches, after all didn't they need drivers to test the game on the PC before release, or did they just skip that part. Also all this talking they're supposedly doing with the driver vendors should have been done before release if there were problems. If the game does present new problems for drivers you can hardly expect updated drivers to come out before the vendors have had time to test, update, retest etc. It's all 100% id software's fault.Good game, but id failed in a truly epic fashion with the PC release and their attitude about both that and the PC in general doesn't make me want to be very sympathetic.Great game or not, it is the last one I buy from id purely because it's an "id" game.[/citation]

Yeah, saying it's drivers fault is absurd. Didn't they test the game before releasing it? I'm seeing here a half done console port. A real bad one.

I hope they do better when they port the game to GNU/Linux.

I have an ATI card.... i had to use the new beta ati drivers only to find that the problems persisted. Game totally unplayble due to a nasty bug that would simply pause the game for several seconds every several seconds... Did some search on google and of course some people had already found the solution....

You need to start the game with a specific command... then it runs well. Well most of the time.... ID and Carmack had to work closer with ATI to improve his game driver rather than go out and accuse both NVIDIA and ATI for poor driver updates. Problem was solved by altering its own exe file.

There is also a new config file that the user can create on his own to make some of the game textures very sharp.. SOME, not all.

The graphics in the game are really not that bad but they are nothing spectacular.... anyone who claims this type of game engine is the best in the market needs a brain overhaul. It is not CRYSIS 2 engine and it definitely not is DEAD ISLAND (chrome 5) engine ... if you have played dead island on max setting you will understand. The game has nice rock textures ..... what else hmmm. The game will run very smooth as well, but that is another thing. YOu need to take into account there is little open world to render as most of the game runs through narrow canyons.

Game is too linear. The story is too simple. The overal game (all side quests included/all races done) is less than 20 hours on easy mode. But in all honesty, a game that is so shallow and has no repeatable value, does not easily convince a player to replay the game on another difficulty level.

I warn everyone that the game has NOTHING to do with Fallout phiilosophy and open world and it has NOTHING to do again with the masterpiece i call Borderlands. Bordelands had this awesome replay value that is not easily found in games. RAGE has no rpg elements other than modying some of your vehicles... that was fun though.

I still have to comment positively for the really nice textures and graphics on the characters in the game as well the very precise mouth/lip sync when the characters talk.... that was really good.

Overall, it was a bit fun ( for those 20 hours i played it in total) to play as a game, it is suitable for those who like simple fps games without having to gather things, do zillions of quests etc and for those that will not grudge spending 39 euros to get a game that will last that ridiculously short. ( i have invested around 60 hours of gameplay on dead island and i am still at 58% of the main plot)

When you're down in the sewers actually doing the shooting and killing, the game is pretty slick. Plinking a heavy in his helmet with a pistol will knock his vision around and running up on the same dude with a 12gauge will completely take his nugget off.

The two player co-op missions are alright. They're fun to blast through but I really wished there was a proper campaign co-op. The other MP modes suck.

And pretty much everything else about the game sucks. The writing is horrible, the graphics are a mixed bag, it's totally linear, and there's 0 character progression to keep you invested.

Wait for a $10 Steam sale.

I actually really enjoyed this game. It was a big departure from the type of shooters normally available right now. The action was generally really good, especially fighting mutants. One of the coolest things is being able to craft all kinds of things, and particularily the different ammo types that besides the pistol always gave the weapons totally new abilities.

It wasn't particularily hard, though. I died only around 4 times on Nightmare difficulty, and it took 14hrs 30mins to beat (which is actually awesome for a shooter, I can beat Metro 2033 in half that time).

I always max out the difficulty on any game. This is to ensure I get, or perceive to get, my money's worth. There's no guarantee that there will be re-playability. Does completing the campaign unlock harder difficulty settings?

[citation][nom]Apple Troll Master[/nom]Id Software has had two flops so far...they are done. Duke sucked...Rage sucks.[/citation]

You certainly are a "Troll Master". id had nothing to do with Duke. That was Gearbox working over 3D Realms leftovers.

But the publisher, Bethesda, is on a bad streak. Releasing two mediocre games in Brink and Rage. Doesn't Bethesda have a QA department? My hopes for Skyrim are starting to fade after those two releases.

We're way off topic now, but oh well. I'm worried about Skyrim too. How many $60 games felt worth their price tag? I grabbed a 360 in 2005, and Oblivion. The 360 blew away the PC I had at the time, and would've taken more than $400 to bring up to speed anyway. In recent years, I think Oblivion and all of its DLC probably came the closest, if not matched or exceeded. I'm still worried about Skyrim anyway because its 6 yrs later, and still restrained to the same storage limitations (+/- a few MBs). Maybe Bethesda looked at Brink and Rage as their red-headed stepchildren, and payed much more respect to the Oblivion/Skyrim franchise. I won't be pre-ordering, but will be waiting anxiously for the reviews and game-play videos.

Back on topic, I don't think patches can fix the major complaints with Rage. I would bet money that a Rage II would be a lot better, having learned what they learned.

I've had absolutely no problems with RAGE since it released (560Ti in SLI). It's a good action shooter with amazing graphics (the odd blurry object texture) and a buttery smooth frame rate, IMO. Each to his own, though.

they didn't make duke... *insert intelligence insult here*

[citation][nom]clonazepam[/nom]I'd pick it up on Steam for $5-$10, by the time it drops to that price, it might be spiffy.[/citation]
Right there with ya man. Once it drops to 5-10 on steam I'll pick it up out of curiosity. All the reviews I've read and gameplay videos I've seen fail to 'wow' me enough to be all that interested in it.

If you have a real fast machine with more than one monitor, this game is not for you. It is made for a console system. id sold out to the consoles, is anyone surprised? I finished it at 1920x1080, it ran and looked like I assume it was supposed to (on a console) but if I tried to run it on the full resolution of my 3 screens at 5760x1080 with an OC'ed i7 at 3.8Ghz and GTX590, all I got was flashing and muddy textures and a crashing game. Funny how both Borderlands and Fallout NV run perfectly at 5760x1080 with everything turned on.

This is a great game in current state with the current patch. This new patch will make it even better. This is something that I was hoping for but did not know it would actually exist nor know what it was called or anything.

As far as this game being a flop, etc. You wish? I mean, $5 or $10 on steam? maybe in a couple years. This game is great. Again on $5 or $10, this is no DNF. I've put some time into DNF but I've put a lot more thought and time into playing this game.

The only gripe I have right now is that the missions I'm currently on are really short and but up against eachother really quick so it makes the game feel really slow paced. Yesterday instead of continuing on, I went to the dice game and gambled for quite a bit before dinner.

Roll 'em... this game kicks ass.

As I said on the first article here about RAGE problems - the texture itself is the problem and it would requires GBs of texture pack download to fix it. Still, I get thumbed down.

If bandwidth is their problem, torrent is their friend.

ID Software have not come up with a good idea for a game since Quake. Great engines but actual games are lacking - Carmack, get John Romero back!
