Any bottleneck?

Hi, i'm on the verge of ordering this build, and I just wanted to know if anyone can see any obvious bottlenecks with it. I'm almost certainly going to buy it as I like the processor which I got for a very reasonable price, and I think it will be a viable build for a year or so untill i'm in a better financial position.

I bought the system from an online retailer, without the part listed in red.

My main concerns are with bottlenecks between the PSU, the GPU, CPU and Mobo. Anyone have any suggestions seeing as I haven't bought the GPU yet?

Oh and I would consider investing in a better-than-stock CPU cooler and overclocking it, although I know nothing more about overclocking than someone who'se just read about it for 5 minutes on this forum (which is what I did).

Here is my build:

HDD: 500 GB SATA-II HDD 7200 8MB 650W PSU
RAM: Corsair 8GB XMS3 PC3-12800 1600MHz (2x4GB)
Case: Tornado Gaming Case - Black
GPU: Nvidia GTX 470 1.2GB
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 970 (4 x 3.5 GHz) AM3 8MB - Black Edition
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA74GMT-S2 (AMD 740G) AM3
PSU: Standard 650W PSU

One thing I do see is that the motherboard is not a SLI/Xfire model, which I may want by then... but I figure I can get it done.

The PC from the builder cost me £540 and the GPU will cost me £170ish.

My only concern is the PSU. You listed a standard PSU but the wrong one can hurt your system or die before it should. 650W is plenty for your system but I am curious as to what brand and model number.

A "wrong one" cannot "hurt" a system, only if it is super super cheap. If you go with Corsair, Antec or Cooler Master, you'll have no problem whatsoever.

It can if it blows up and takes some components with it. Also, if it can't keep voltages in the appropriate range, that certaintly doesn't help the life of your components.

Another thing I just noticed is that with an AMD chipset, there is no chance for SLI later. All AMD chipsets support Crossfire only. You will need to grab an nvidia chipset if you want an AMD processor and SLI compatibility. Otherwise, grab a hd6870 or XFX 5870 for the same ~$250.

they do make motherboards AM3 that can run SLI, you just have to find one.
