Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and I'm building my first PC. I don't have very much experience and I was hoping I could get some advice on my current build plan. I will primarily be using the computer for working (nothing very intensive), watching movies and videos, some light photo editing, and probably the most intensive thing I'll do will be some gaming. I don't play too many games but I know that the ones I want to play are usually resource heavy, such as the Assassin's Creed series, or Crysis. Below is the build. Also, I plan on spending around $1000 on this rig. Thanks!

- AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor
- Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
- Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3-1600 Memory
- Sandisk Ultra II 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
- MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card
- Antec High Current Gamer 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
- Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer
- TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter
- Fractal Design Define R5 ATX Mid Tower Case

Here are the Amazon links to the parts for convenience, but I won't be buying them from here necessarily

* I have checked the bulid with pcpartpicker to make sure everything was compatible

Also, will I need extra fans to cool the PC?

Thanks again!

Solution
Two sticks of RAM which are distributed by the manufacturer as a single pair or KIT are tested to be compatible with each other for dual channel usage. This increases there performance. If you go with a single stick, the problem is that Dual channel may not be possible since each RAM Stick even of the same frequency may have different latency timings or may not be completely compatible for Dual Channeling. So 2x is better than 1x. Provided they are purchased as a single KIT.

Is there an advantage to having two 4 GB cards for RAM over one that is 8 GB?
Also, I've read some reviews that say the Gigabyte motherboard doesn't play nicely with overclocked FX-8350s. Do you think I should still go with this motherboard? What sort of advantages does it have over the Asus? Thanks so much for the rest of the build though!

Okay that makes sense thanks! So what are your thoughts on the motherboard?
