Hello, sorry if this has been asked time and time, I couldn't manage to find a definitive answer.

I want somewhere safe where I can trade my 980 in for a 980ti, it's selling for £450 on OCUK and i've had it since Feb, I need to upgrade since my resolution is 2560x1440 and 4 gigs of memory seem to not be enough to run games at max and get good performance.

Can anyone advise me on this? as in where I can sell it or trade it?

EDIT: i'm not looking for advice on whether or not I should sell my card, I want to sell it, please answer the question I asked.

Solution

It's not like you will pick up a GTX 980 for $250 anytime will it is still so good for gaming. Look at the GTX 780 it still runs for a pretty good penny and it is slower and only 3 gig of vram. At 1440p AA and MSAA isn't needed as much as at 1080p and at 4k you don't need it at all. 2 GTX...

sorry didn't mean to select you as best solution,
yes there are, I'm playing both gta V and witcher 3, I cant run either at max on this resolution, gta v needs more than 4 gigs to run at max on my resolution and so does witcher 3.

Also you didn't answer my question, I didn't ask for advice on how I should spend my money or if I should keep the gpu or not, I simply asked where can I swap/trade or sell it...

Where did you buy it from? How long ago?

For the witcher it does not use more than 2.5 gb of vram, i would get another 980 and have it on SLI; now if you were going for 4k then it would be wise to switch over to the 980 ti.

Edit: this is on 1440p

Here are my thought since I have the same gtx 980. I am sticking with it. I am not going to chase the tech parade and waste excessive money over small upgrades all the time. The gtx 980 is doing great, and once 1440p monitors drop in price I will switch to that and add a second gtx 980. I am huge into fps so 4k isn't worth it to me unless I can get 100fps on it.

Since when? Most people report about 3GB memory usage at 1440p...

People are using 4GB memory at 2160p... Did you use Geforce Experience to "Optimize" your settings? Because if you did, it might be over-sampling which would have your video card producing 2160p internally, then over-sampling it back down to 1440p. And that could explain why you think you need a more powerful card. Go check the in-game settings in those games, and if that is what its doing, reset that stuff back to 1440p.

To give you context, a 980 Ti of course has better performance than a 980, however even that card nor a Titan X can "max" out the Witcher on 1440p. There have been articles about it recently.

Neither will max out GTA either, you will simple see a boost in performance.

This boost will come at a price of GBP 150 / $250-$300... Are you sure 10 FPS less on the minimum and 10-15FPS on the max are worth that for those two games?

If you are intent on upgrading, you may need to use ebay to sell the 980 at a fair price.

Which 980 do you have? Only EVGA has the step program that I'm aware of. I also question how necessary this is. Are you sure it's the GPU's problem and not something else?

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-ti,4164-4.html

Here is Toms review of the 980Ti, and it shows the 980 getting over 60FPS in GTAV at 1440. Yes the 980Ti is faster, but I'm not sure its worth spending that much just to get an extra 16FPS avg.

You said OCUK, so I'm guessing you are across the pond. I have no idea where good options to sell parts are over there.

Edit: Witcher is on the next page, 50FPS AVG isn't shabby at all.

I have the SOC Gamer by GALAX or KF2A as they're called some places.

Just so you guys believe me that i'm not lying, this is an screenshot of my settings in game, everything turned up to ultra or very high, fxaa off, msaa4x (have mfaa unabled) and all distances set to max, in advanced graphics everything is on and others set to max :

@MarkW I did, how can I revert that? it's the case in most of my games, my gpu used to crash in gta until i set it to 1080p windowed.

@Iamsoda from OCUK back in Feb this yeah (exactly 1st of feb)

I would suggest getting a second GTX 980 after AMD releases their cards (take advantage of any price drops). BTW give me a decent offer and I will buy your GTX 980 and since you won't get hit by 10% ebay gouge from selling there.......

hmm if the price balances then I suppose so,

I wanted to sell my gpu for £350-£400 (£100 down from its amazon price atm) before nvidia decrease the price of 980

That way if I added £200-£300 I could get a decent gtx 980ti

Though if as you say the price of an extra 980 gets that low then I guess a 980 would be a better choice.
If you like my offer I'd like to do that in a month's time when I get my paycheck and 980ti actually arrives in UK XD

The Witcher 3 doesn't use over 4 gb at that res or any res. it's light on vram.

As for GTA 5, a single 980 Ti isn't going to run the game with everything maxed at that res at a high framerate since msaa is a fps killer in it as is ultra grass if you have it on. Turn off (or down by at least half) the advanced distance scaling for sure and lower some other stuff.

I have a 980 and use the game at that res and I don't use more than 3.5 gb of vram. Granted I don't have msaa on yet I have tested it out and it's still under 4 gb since I don't bother with advanced distance scaling at more than about 30-40%.

Plus if direct x 12 turns out to all it is advertised to be, you will have 8 gig of Vram in sli instead of 4; however this also leans on the fact that games have to be ported to direct x 12.
