I've been looking to make a rig with a 4930k as its a CPU and architecture that I don't have experience with. Does any one know a system that was sold that had the 4930k in it? If so I'd love to know.

Yeah, I was going to say you don't often see HEDT K class chips in retail products. Usually just boutique builders. OEMs will use Xeons and ECC in that socket.

Another $150 or so for a motherboard and DDR3 ram for ~$50.

I don't see this being much better than a Ryzen 2600 you could buy brand new. 6 cores 12 threads and roughly the performance of Intel's Haswell or early Skylake, 4930k is Ivy Bridge based.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor ($126.71 @ B&H)
Motherboard: ASRock - B450 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard ($85.71 @ OutletPC)
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($72.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $285.41
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I was wondering if a company like DELL ever made one that I could find on ebay for cheap

Alienware maybe, that was a bit before most of the other OEMs had gaming line-ups. But it wouldn't have been cheap and people would try to get as much as possible out of them. Everything else would have been semi-custom.

If you want that class of computer, no reason you can't find an LGA2011 Xeon. Though still not certain that is worth doing unless the price is really good at this point.

AMD CPUs have never been cheaper than they are right now for the performance. And it gets you into a fully upgradeable platform.
