Anybody ever make their own dust covers?

I've got a lot of computer equipment that could use dust covers. The dust
covers available in the stores seems too expensive, and not a custom fit
anyway.

Have any of you ever made your own dust covers for your computer/electronic
equipment? I would be interested to know how you did it. I Googled for
instructions or tips but came up empty.

heating duct dust filters, the simplest would be a slip over cover. I
just duct taped 2 different sized filters (2 for the sides and 2 for
the front and back) together and with a little modding for the cables
slip it right over the top. I use that for the printer/file server
because it never really needs to be touched. Not practical for a
system that is uses its CD-ROM and removable media often. I saw one
that was a metal skeleton with a hinged front panel to access the roms
and front I/O. The frame allowed for the slip in and out of new
filters. Makes a HUGE difference in the contamination. The printer
server of mine sits near the 'popcorn' packaging stuff. Those little
Styrofoam byproducts get all over the place, but not in the case of
that machine.

Pull your average dust cover over a 21" monitor and leave it on
overnight for a fantastic display of fireworks. Just don't sleep in the
vicinity.

I know better than to put a dust cover over a running monitor, or CPU for
that matter. Mainly I'm thinking about my scanners and printer.

I made covers similar to making a bird cage cover. I used old cotton
sheets and a sewing machine. Make them inside out. I made them
rather quickly, and I absolutely hate to sew! If you want to make
them water resistant, spray with ScotchGuard.
