As I can no longer connect to Battle.Net, appears someone has hacked
my CD Key or something, I'm looking for more interesting single player
action.

Anybody recommend some good mods for single?

thank you

Having the same problem (although mine's from the stupid game freezing
at the "Checking Versions" screen), my current lineup is:

Ancestral Recall: http://www.planetdiablo.com/teknokyo/

Chaos Empire: http://chaosempire.net/download.htm

Nezeramontias: http://www.cs.appstate.edu/~cb/personal/mod.html

and Gemstone: http://www.ghostwryter.com/gemstone/ (Note: I've been
told this site is up occasionally, but I haven't seen it so in a
*long* time. I admit that I'm mostly playing this one because I and a
bunch of other people from the other group put in a bunch of
suggestions for it, but if you can't get it from the site, and wish to
get it, the best way is to go to the other group and ask ~misfit~ to
email it to you.)

you dont need to play single to play these mods.. theres realms that host
them as well, and with the idiotic anti bot protection(r/d for even legit
players).. im sick of playing on b.net anyways, I host a vanilla 1.10 realm
on my pc., mainly for the lan but im debating picking up a mod, and anyone
on the internet is welcome.. its probably just laggy as hell. =)

peace,
kyle

What version did you try? It is now up to 7.50 with a 7.51 patch. I have
to run it with the -w switch, but it works fine then (on my Win98 box).

Are any of these for "Classic" D2, or are they all (like CE) for LoD
only?

Help Help.

I guess I need an overview here. What happens with this mod? Different
world? Enhanced same world? Does it destroy the original so you can't play
it or do you access that program/mod separately?

These and other questions...feel free and thanks so much.

Enhanced / modified same world. Most maps are the same as the original but
some areas are quite different. Some new monsters, some monsters changed.
No, the original game stays there, you are able to switch back and forth at
will (when closed, not running), when the mod is 'activated' that is what
will load when you click on your D2LOD icon / shortcut.
Extras, extras, extras, galore - from new item types (character specific),
new sets, new uniques, plus, belts, amulets, and rings can be socketed. You
can make runewords with rare items!
Tougher - default (minimum) setting is /players 13 with /players 20 max.
MUCH bigger inventory and stash - along with 'shared' stash that any
character on your machine can access.
And, of course, the proverbial 'much, much, more'.

Very cool. In your opinion, between

Ancestral Recall: http://www.planetdiablo.com/teknokyo/

Chaos Empire: http://chaosempire.net/download.htm

you feel that Chaos Empire is the better of the two? I like the battle
aspects, am not looking through a collection of astonishing armor and
such, and want to just have fun. Oh, and if it doesn't screw up the
original game so it can't be played, so much the better. I've downloaded
both, but don't know which one to try, mostly because your kind comments
were on Chaos Empire and not Ancestral Recall.

Thanks!

Sorry. It's sort of a doesn't matter now.

After reading, I decided to go with Chaos Empire for now. It's pretty
impressive in the layout and installed and upgraded with no problems at
all!

My wife, who plays Diablo on a Mac, is already jealous. Does anybody
know if Chaos Empire can be used on the Mac?

Ok, ok. Appreciate the info, all. I just discovered, however, that I
canNOT go back to playing Diablo standard. The normally used shortcut now
opens Chaos Empire.

Hope I like this!

I believe that if you go back to your start menu>programs>Diablo and
click on your Chaos Empire Activator, it will deactivate CE and you can
then go back to playing D2-LOD.

Hizzah!!

Thanks so much, I honestly appreciate the information and help that has
always been a hallmark of this group.

If I may impose, under the Chaos Empire, what is the *overall*
difference from 1.10? Are the warrior classes better represented than in
the Blizzard version? Is it possible to move through it SP from the very
beginning? I've only dipped into it for a few moments so far and
discovered at once that the zombies out there take a lot more whacking
to finally keel over and, is seems, the barbarian is hauling rather than
creeping. Both are welcome developments!

Again, Diane and all, thanks and I look forward to any more information.

There's lots of info here:
http://www.planetdiablo.com/chaosempire/index.htm

I find CE to be more challenging than the Blizzard version in terms of
the battles. However, ability to gain gold, uniques, rares etc. is
tremendously increased. The larger stash and inventory are a welcome
addition.

If you have questions as you go along, feel free to ask. There's enough
of us here playing this mod that you should be able to get some very
good tips and strategies.

Welcome to CE
Diane

Thanks Diane.

I'll take you up on the offer after I've spent a little time goofin'

See ya here soon,
