Hey all,
So I have a 5-6 year old PC I built with an I-7 950, 8GB of ram, and a crappy video card.
I have been planning for a while to put a GTX 970 SSC in it.. I have a power supply already that can handle it. I also want to upgrade the ram to about 16 gb.
My real question is about VR. With the minimum specs being for a i5-4690 processor for virtual reality... do you guys think an I-7 950 could cut it?
I have heard about people with I-7 920's overclocking and using Oculus Dev kits.. I dont know how that compares to the consumer version about to be released but if an overclocked I7-920 could run VR, I don't see why an I7-950 couldn't.. maybe it would need to be overclocked also but with that processor, the GTX 970, and double the amount of ram required... what do you guys think?
I have been trying to run the steamvr performance test to see if it gives me an ok on the processor only but I am having unrelated issues with getting that to launch.
Anyone atleast done a test maybe with an I7-950 setup?
Obviously if I could make this work, it means the difference between a few hundred bucks for the GPU upgrade or an entire new system.. considering the HTC Vive is $800 also, I am trying to keep from having to sell a kidney to get this
Thx
