Check out this weird XP problem...

I went into the control panel, and then into "folder option" and I changed my default folder ICON but also somehow accidently changed my folder default action I guess.

Now when I double click on ANY folder on my hard drive, it launches the windows search screen. And, now when I right click on any folder, the first option is now "search" instead of "open"! The first option when you right click on a folder is suppose to be "open", not "search".

How Do I change my default folder option to "open" again?

PLEASE help window XP gurus

look in the registry, there are keys for the right click menu contents. you could export the keys from another working computer and replace them. i dont have time to find them right now.

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

Here's another way that should work. Go to Folder Options/ select the File Types/File Folder under File Types with none Extension/do you see anything in action like open if so you should be able to click on that and set at default. The open should be there, but if not cont./Advanced/New/in action give a name like open/in application used to perform action Browse to>C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe< click Ok and you should be all set.

you can try by going back to the folder option and click to reset everything to standard settings and check if everything workes normal and then try to change whatever you wanted to change

System Restore (if you don't want mess with registry settings)?

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

Kapimp is all set, at least on this matter
