Apple and Religion Stimulate Brain in Same Way

I've long wondered about this sort of thing after reading fanboy rants on various hardware platforms, including Apple. On a broader perspective, I suspect that political ideologies as well as "my brand fannishness" are replacing religion in some people's lives, offering the same sense of belonging and "being on the right side of things." It also satisfies a more self-centered mindset, not requiring those tiresome "doing good for your fellow human beings" things.
It has another serious downside, though. An early Church father, named Anselm once opined that faith needs to seek out reason and understanding. (Faith needs to be consistent and coherent.) I'd say that's true of any belief system, even one in the omnipotent Jobs.
For me, hardware is a means to an end and nothing more. I'm very utilitarian. I don't like Apple because it's too limited in hardware choices and too "our way is the only way" in software functionality. It just doesn't work for me.

[citation][nom]rpgplayer[/nom]There is no difference between PC hardware and Mac hardware. oh wait, let me correct myself. there is no difference between PC hardware and Mac hardware, other than the price.[/citation]
Then there is no difference between Lenovo, Sony, Dell, HP, Asus, Samsung and all the others either.

"why would u buy a 1.5grand Lenovo X1 if you could buy a 600USD Dell with the same processor" *derp* *derp*

I'd say this would be true for fanboys in general, whether it's Microsoft, Sony, Apple, etc. The Apple bashers on here who are fiercely loyal to Android or other devices are no different. They really are all like religions. All groups cling to misinformation and try to justify their own faith by attacking and shunning the "non-believers."

There are way too many similarities. Apple is on the verge of bankruptcy and then (3 days later maybe?) is saved, only to be re-born even stronger with all of their i-crap. Of course, that would mean if Jobs is Jesus, than Microsoft is God?

So in conclusion fanboys are mentally ill? Because that is the way that I take it. If such compulsions become a automatic desire or reaction one could label it as a addiction and addictions are now classified as a disease. Religion is really no different when, I am sure any rational mind here can agree that a religious zealot who obsesses over his religion and perhaps the combat of others is mentally ill. So if a fanboy share such traits they too must be mentally ill.

This may sound funny but if our corporations are causing massive mental illness that mimics those who take religion way too far than who is to say we don't someday have a Apple fanboy going to the Microsoft HQ building and shoot it up just like a religious zealot attacks a abortion clinic.

That has got to be the most moronic argument I've ever seen. A levano X1 has superior hardware in an incredibly small, thin, and lightweight form factor. Would you find that in a $600 dell? Invalid argument.

Now it would be a different story if you were comparing a $1500 macbook that has the SAME HARDWARE specs as an $800 HP.

$700 for a stupid apple logo? Nty.

[citation][nom]Tedders[/nom]I'm not a "fanboy" either way as I use both Microsoft products and Apple products both at work and at home. But, I am wondering when Tom's will change their site name to Tom's Hardware for Windows. Apple makes hardware just like Microsoft, Logitech, Dell, HP and etc yet Apple gets stories like this posted about it just because it increases traffic. I mean, thats the whole point to the site...create traffic. But good grief people... If you are going to be a hardware site then you have to look at it all from a level playing field. Getting more and more disappointed with this site both in terms of the stories that are posted and their content and also the quality of the content.[/citation]

It is Toms hardware for Windows/Linux... This site is about custom built computers. Apple doesn't allow that, end of the story. Most people here also despise the walled garden concept, whoever advocate it.

Ehh, CPU is standardized across the board. I'm much more interested in what brand they are using for their motherboards, GPUs and RAM. And if its a certain set of brands, then I want to know if they've unloaded their B-stock on the manfuacturer saving the good stuff for aftermarket/premium brands. There are also the geometrical design considerations with respect to cooling. In any case, Apple is, like religion, for the weak-minded. This we knew. Now we have evidence. /pity for Apple zealots. And actaully /pity for Apple anti-Zealots and MS-Zealots, and in general, any zealots.

Think for yourself.

[citation][nom]bender3000[/nom]Exactly! Instead of detonating a bomb near a mosque it will be a Dell factory.[/citation]

It might be time to start looking for possible terrorists among the green fruit croud, extremists promised a bunch of unused puters, phones and pads from their "diety" got to be dangerous! /laughter

There's more to a laptop than hardware specs.
real world battery life, weight, quality of the display, keyboard, touchpad/trackpad (You can't argue that Apple doesn't use the best trackpads out there), quality and sturdiness of the chassis (milled aluminium ftw), little things like the power supply and power connector (magsafe is priceless), etc.

There are apple products that are ridiculously overpriced (the big macbook pros are a joke and the current generation mac mini is just way too expensive to be a viable HTPC option) but that doesn't mean all of them are too expensive.

Comparing a Mac to a PC is a moronic argument.. That's like comparing a car to an suv. They have 4 wheels, and the science and hardware are extremely simple, but the purpose and execution are completely different. But some people don't understand things past their limited view of the world.

Apple actually makes very little hardware, yes it makes prebuilt difficult to upgrade computers, but it doesn't really make hardware in terms of motherboards, hard drives, video cards, the type of hardware Tom's is all about. It get just about as much attention as any other pre-built computer maker, dell, lenovo, etc.

- if Apple is a religion and you used to worked for them that means that if
if you resigned = abandon the faith, retrenched = excommunicated, ... ?
- the little cult that almost got wiped out. from OS to BS (Belief System).
- quick someone from corporate come up with the 10 commandments and the book of Jobs.

Timothy Leary... personally, this always makes me think of the intro to the live version of Third Eye on Tool's Salival album.

There may actually be something to this. People that are religious/Apple fanboys blindly believe in something that is imaginary (God, superiority of Apple products). And people that don't believe in religion/Apple look at the evidence and make logical decisions (science, best value products).

It may sound silly and improbable and it very well should be. But it already happens commonly just on different subjects. As crazy as it sounds is exactly as crazy as it is and there are people out there capable of such actions.

I have no doubt that I could easily start a small riot at a Apple store when a new product is released. In-fact violence has erupted before at such events. Don't doubt the insanity of others and their willingness to use violence even over things that you and I would find absurd.

Apple: Hey we have a new product for you.
Applelover: Oh yeah?! What's new about it?
Apple: Don't worry about that. It's new.
Applelover: What? Oh okay.
Apple: You don't want to be left in the past now do you? Come on..
Applelover: How much?
Apple: How much you got?
Applelover: My life savings.
Apple: I'll take it.

Science is key here. And real science is absent from this "study" or better said, this, very oriented marketing campaign. So ask yourself who is behind this and interested to promote these fashion "scientific studies".

You wont find any of this studies supported by serious scientific publications or scientist. But you will find some scientists behind it.

[citation][nom]thrasher32[/nom]So Steve Jobs is the new Jim Jones? Nice.[/citation]
LOL! I was thinking along the same lines. Jobs is a high tech televangalist! And considering how proprietary Apple is, he's just as slimey!
