The new FERMI chips are just to hot, literally. Apple uses tight, sleek designs and the excessive heat from the new Nvidia would cause allot of problems.

[citation][nom]rohitbaran[/nom]nVidia, your GTX 460 might just not be that good from apple's point as 8800 GT was.[/citation]
It's the excessive heat from these new Nvidia cards that is the problem for Apple.

It's entirely due to thermal and power management. Thermal in their tightly packed iMacs and power in their Mac Pros since they're reusing the 2009 Mac Pro logic board which only has two 6 pin power connectors, no 8 pin so the GTX 480 is out.

Hopefully this will mean that Apple starts turning the thumb screws on ATI to get them to improve their GPGPU support significantly. OpenCL could do with some hefty improvement on ATI hardware. Personally, I just wish someone would release a Fortran to OpenCL cross compiler.

[citation][nom]justinjkiss[/nom]Also 1 more thing .... YOU DONT BUY MAC if your looking for VALUE VALUE you buy a PC[/citation]
True, buy a Chevy or Porche

the only way to go is Intel and nVidia, at least nVidia's drivers are a lost more stable. Why would anyone buy a cpu that's outdated? Intel is and will allays be cutting edge technology. Apple is becoming cheap and very greedy. if they start to use cheaper components then the prices should drop also, but i don't see that happening any time soon

[citation][nom]xrodney[/nom]You forgot add less power required and less head created, thus better cooling and less noise for AMD.Amd CPUs are not that much behind Intel performance, difference is just several percents.[/citation]

Troll, troll, troll, your boat....

[citation][nom]apache_lives[/nom]I also get that feeling after seeing millions of dead laptops thanks to dud nvidia chips[/citation]

That wouldn't really explain choosing ATI for desktops and nVidia for laptops.

There has to be a reason for going all ATI, but guessing is just guessing.
Keeping both suppliers happy, but not complacent? Thermal envelope? Pricing?

The reason is simple, build Mac's cheaper, but sell them for the same old price.Mac people aren't buying them for max performance anyways, they buy them cause they have a Apple logo on the side.

[citation][nom]L0tus[/nom]Apple customers must be chumps.21-inch LCDi3-5404GB RAM500GB HDD$1200 Apple Mac$600 Windows PC (max)Even with the free shipping on the Apple option, this is an utter joke. Please tell me why this company is still posting profits.[/citation]
was just thinking.... how much would a ips monitor plus bluetooth adapter plus wifi add to our pcs. nowadays im thinking perhaps the difference is not much if you factor in that ips display.

[citation][nom]DjEaZy[/nom]... it may be, but there is one more thing... nobody counts in the software package and high quality materials the iMac is build from... the osx is equal, may be better than Win7... i talk about optimization for the hardware... so the hardware is about 500 + Win7Ultimate 272 + antivirus + customer care, if there is one for pc... when you build your own, it's cheaper... but when you optimize and give it a high finish... it's just a bit cheeper...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6832116718[/citation]
antivirus is free . that is more than enogh for us. customer care. never needed it as long as toms is there. mouch better than any apple customer care.

Sadly, investers that are not tech savvi are investing in nVidia. Why? Likely because nVidia does a bit more than video card and I think it's also likely that they haven't done the research to find out that the new cards are excessively hot and require a massive power supply.

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I want AMD to have more success. On the other, I want Apple to learn humility by absorbing a couple of failures.

Because a lot of people like their operating system unfortunately. Doesn't hurt that they have attractive looking products either. Sigh.

Probably one of the reasons is the power consumption in idle/full load and the fact that the cards are cheaper, plus you don't really need a beast in your Mac.. "I" wouldn't see the point in having it.
But what do I know right? I'm a PC user which also build his own computer.

But seeing the bright side now ATI will be in the eyes of every, hum.. Mac User

[citation][nom]Wittermark[/nom]i don't understand why there still so many people out there thinking AMD is POS, at my company, which we use workstations for 3d modelling/design, I currently sport a x6 1090T and its heaps faster than our i7's for graphic renderings. the i7 930 pulled 1min30secs rendering a scene while my 1090T did it under a minuite. so i'd say yes, good move on the AMD switch[/citation]
You company is using the wrong software then.
