[citation][nom]gm0n3y[/nom]I read this on Engadget earlier today and the reporting difference is kinda funny.Engadget: "Secunia ranks Apple first in software insecurity"Toms: "Apple is the Leader in Admitting Software Bugs"I would have thought that Engadget was more pro-Apple than Toms, I guess not.[/citation]
And on Arstechnica...
"Apple the new world leader in software insecurity"

So, is there a common bias against Apple, or is Toms particularly biased towards Apple. In truth, all of these headlines appear to exhibit bias of some sort.

Fair enough, its hard (if not impossible) to report without bias. However, to me, it seems a little silly to take an article about how many bugs companies have and try to spin the fact that a particular company has the most into a good thing.

[citation][nom]mavanhel[/nom]That's a terrible graph. Who decided to use 3 shades of green!? I can't tell which one is HP and which one is Adobe.[/citation]
Actually easy to read since the companies are listed in the same order that they finished in 2010 on the graph, top to bottom.

Manny of you simply may not use a Mac often enough so to you those graphics and titles may be the way to gather information. But don't misread the titles and jump into conclusions. Also, stop hearing Apple ignorants and zealots, after all they don't "belong" exclusively to Apple, nor Apple alone produced them.

I use OSX everyday. Last year I reported and complained on manny Apple specific sites about my bad experience updating to Snow Leopard. It took me maybe close to 2 month to solve all my problems from Apple and also 3rd party software, and I was not happy. But now, those times are gone. My Macs have not crashed for months. It is just one turn on, use it and at the end of the day turn it off. OSX or a Mac will never be perfect, you now that I know that, but the OS works fine now and better even. 3rd party drivers are working fine for me and I use a combination of 7 to 10 3D apps, dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, Office, EyeTV, iTunes, and utilities. Quite contrary OSX has being very stable lately.

By the way, I use my PC all day, I builded myself and I am very happy with it, but I had Windows drivers and stability problems too, Nevertheless, I love technology and I can say I am pleased with all my machines and OSs, not just with the Apple ones. I read and post comments to stay informed and make better decisions not to "belong" into an exclusivity virtual and social club.

Hmm, I see all the 14 yr olds are running around loose.

Please document for me one worm or virus that has caused a problem on a Mac (conficker, anyone?), and that Google and the military are not buying Macs by the bushel.

Please document for me how all the third party reports don't say that Apple has the highest customer satisfaction (highest among the PC switchers, I hear), the longest life, and the best customer support by a wide margin.

Since this article was written by a Security company about security on a system they have no sales to, wonder if they are trying to FUD their way to some sales amongst the 100 million or so Apple slaves.

Hmm, this gets more interesting. Read the quote below about Secunia:

"Secuina explicitly stated in its report that the "graph is not an indication of the individual vendors’ security, as it is not possible to compare the vendors based on number of vulnerabilities alone," but that didn't stop the report from generating such sensational headlines as "Apple the new world leader in software insecurity" and "Apple wins software insecurity world cup."

A closer look at Secunia's numbers shows a bizarre calculation of vulnerability numbers that appears intentionally designed to mislead, despite the company's stern warnings not to misuse the data."

The graph is unreadable. Anyways, they may admit to software bugs (ie: the antenna software fix for iPhone 4, and iPhone 3G(s) before that), but they suck in addressing hardware issues or anything that requires a good bit of money to fix.

[citation][nom]deuceswyyld[/nom]Apple may be the leader in admitting software bugs, but Microsoft and Adobe are the makers of the most buggy software.[/citation]
The pinwheel of death that frequently occurs in Leopard and Snow Leopard is proof enough that Apple make the buggiest operating system. The only time Windows 7 itself freezes up is because of buggy hardware drivers.

@ bochia & dueceswyyld

Apple has always admitted to hardware and software flaws and fixed them. No company can produce and error free product - just ask all the owners of Windoze ME, Vista,..... who never got them fixed. I could throw in Dell and HP on the hardware side, oh and Gateway, too.

Apple has fewer errors over all and does a better job than all the rest in fixing them. That's why they get such high consumer ratings.

BTW, your fake comment about Leopard and SNL shows you have absolutely no knowledge of what you are talking about.

[citation][nom]wotan31[/nom] Do you own a Kin? Do you own a Windows Mobile phone? Even as an MS fanboi, I bet you answer 'no' to both questions. Food for thought.[/citation]

Yes.

I owned a WM phone. It sucked. So horribly.
I traded it for a Kin. It rocks. Much.

I'm VERY much looking forward to WP7 after having seen the Kin in action.

Incidentally, seeing as we are trying to make statistics fit what we believe rather than let something like the truth get in the way, here's an interesting way to look at it.
It states who has the most vulnerabilities as a number, not a percentage.
But as the number of Windows PCs is nearly 19 times more than Apple Computers then the percentage would increase by the same figure.

For example if they had the same number of problems, let's be arbitrary and say a million problems. Then, if there are a billion computers on the Earth, that's 50 million Macs and 900 million Windows PCs, plus others.

That would be 1 problem for every 50 Macs and 1 problem for every 900 PCs.

Of course there aren't that many problems in total but it just goes to show that compared to their market share they are massively at a disadvantage. Must do better Apple, because it only gets worse the more you sell.

[citation][nom]aaron686[/nom]Or maybe they make up having software bugs to cover up faulty hardware.[/citation]
Hmm, interesting theory...
[citation][nom]Steve Jobs[/nom]"Hey guys! Ignore just how crappy we are there, over here we are WAAAY crappier"[/citation]
I think that may actually be the truth
