Eh it's ok. It's a little over priced but not to bad actually. I hate apple by the way. If you were to spec something like this below it would probably be about $999 and this comes with Leopard server w/e that involves being a server edition. When putting together a built system don't forget to include an operating system. So the price is reasonable.

The Mac mini with Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server, for a suggested retail price of $999 (US), includes:

* 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB of shared L2 cache;
* 4GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM, expandable up to 8GB;
* two 500GB Serial ATA hard drives running at 7200 rpm;
* NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics;
* AirPort Extreme 802.11n wireless networking and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR;
* Gigabit Ethernet;
* four USB 2.0 ports;
* SD card slot;
* one FireWire 800 port;
* one HDMI port and one Mini DisplayPort;
* HDMI to DVI video adapter;
* combined optical digital audio input/audio line in (minijack); and
* combined optical digital audio output/headphone out (minijack).

no you can't. Not at this form factor. Think small and then get back to me again. ITX ... and then go from there.

[citation][nom]CoryInJapan[/nom]WHooaaaaa I could build A quad core gaming machine for that much off new egg.with 4-6 gigs of ram and a 1gb higher end graphics card.[/citation]

Here's a perfect example on why I hate apple.

With Snow Leopard Server it has "Mobile Access Server" - easily set up and manage secure remote access to your business network.

I'm thinking in my head using my android phone to remote into my home network and do stuff. Sounds really awesome and something I'd consider doing. Yes I know there is s/w available for PC to do that. That's not the point.

This is why I hate apple: "Mobile Access Server is designed to work with your iPhone and Mac"

Instead of broadening Apple's technology they keep it within their circle. PC is successful because it's not in a closed circle. You can buy a PC, put unix on it, and make it do the same thing as Apples leopard server does.

HATE apple with a passion.

About the price hike. There were two models previously, at $599 and $799.
Now there's one model at $699, with better specs than the previous "high end".

So it's not exactly the kind of price gouging some seem to suggest.

Mind you, I don't like the price point, I'd rather see a $499 version.
Like it was when the mini was first introduced.

But then, I'd rather see the damn minitower already.

i like the form factor quite a bit but can't apple release something in a reasonable price range? I'll suffer through OSX if you'll just price your products fairly.

the concept you speak of is best described in the difference between capitalism and communism. In the capitalist state everyone works for their own gain and in turn helps others through necessity or charity. In the communist/fascist/socialist/progressive state all morals and values must be subverted in order to exalt the decision of the state for the centrally planned state decries the use of any and all things within its borders. This subsequently demoralizes a large portion of the population of said state except for the ones who are complete supporters of all decisions of the state.

So it is with apple... Apple products are fine if you only use apple products with apple products and dont smoke around your mac (they wont service your machine under warranty if you do). But the instant you dont agree with something that mac has done you are out in the cold so to speak. You cannot speak your opposition to their decision with any chance of being taken seriously. Nor can you legally take their product (like you could with open source products) and re-engineer it to meet your needs. While you cant do this with products in the "capitalist state" of PC's you can write a program that runs on windows or linux that will do what you want and then you can even (if you so desire) sell that program (or intellectual property) and make a profit. Where as I dont think there are a lot of people allowed to program for macs unless they work for apple.

That is why you feel the way you do... Apple is fascist/communist/socialist/progressive and PC's are capitalist and you being (most likely) a red blooded American are an inherent capitalist who doesnt like to be tied down to one specific program or piece of hardware or even idea.

Your analogy and facts are so flawed it boggles the mind! 😀
Corporation trying to maximise it's profits = commie bastids!

It's about time Apple released a Mac that has full hardware support for both multichannel DVD-Audio discs and multichannel 24-bit 192KHz PCM audio. Optical audio connectors don't have anywhere near the bandwidth. Very strange that a Blu-Ray drive isn't at least an option. There are an awful lot of Windows PC's for under $1,000 that include a Blu-Ray drive.

[citation][nom]lauxenburg[/nom]Atom would just destroy their little anti-netbook/nettop scheme...even if implemented in a desktop. They have A4 after all don't they *wink* *nudge*.The power supply is probably external. With such a low profile, even the smallest PSUs couldn't fit in there. They might have a few internal power delivery components but most of them will be in a brick.If not, I am impressed.[/citation]
Power supply is internal, read some specs - or do you only do that with atom?

[citation][nom]lauxenburg[/nom]Well it looks like I didn't read thoroughly enough. Integrated power supply?!?! Holy crap. That's the tightest fit computer in the world...well done...still costs too much thought ^^.[/citation]
So price of components=price of package? Fitting it all like this should be free? The case design, free? Even with all of that in mind, the specs blow away a comparably priced yet still larger Zino HD. So where are you pulling this imaginary value from?

[citation][nom]megamanx00[/nom]I think the point is, why would you want a Mac Server Farm? Sure, you should be able to do it, but why not just use cheaper PCs, or racks to save space, running FreeBSD rather than paying more for a Mac? I mean can you imagine a server room full of Apple Logos and silver cases? The thought just makes me lol.[/citation]
This is more for small business use, but farms can be made of anything...PS3s, GameCubes, etc. Using this as a server will make integration for a small office of macs very easy, check out the features. It's similar to MS SBS.

Apple's Xserve is more what you're imagining I guess, I'm sure someone uses it somewhere...

Your lack of knowledge of government matches this guy's lack of research before ranting. Apple allows you to connect with pc software...fascism and socialism are complete opposites...and you fail.

Why does Jobs always manage to cock up at least one thing...Price! Too high Apple. Get it down,make it a loss-leader if necessary. Throw in Steam HL2 HLe1 and HLe2 gratis and these things will fly off the shelves. Heck, you can afford it.

Why in the hell are we speaking about server farm and "Apple" in the same sentence. Seriously no sane minded person would floor / rack space to anything of this nature. Instead they would use significantly better price / performance / space / over-head built systems and rack them in a high density environment. A "small business server" would instead use a much cheaper IBM compatible PC + Linux (Ubuntu or CENTOS). Apple's concept of "server" and "enterprise" is a joke in IT circles.

The only real reason to buy anything Mac is as a fashion accessory. They look good, are stylish and are clique.

[citation][nom]war2k9[/nom]This should be the mac media center.If the price is lower I would consider getting one to play with.If i get one most likely i will load win7 and dual boot.[/citation]

You could buy 5 highly capable embedded media solutions for the price of one of these... Why would you spend that much more? Just to be able to watch Hulu? If it had a blu-ray drive in it then it *might* be worth the price. Since it doesn't, what really makes it better than the WD, Seagate, or D-link media center products that sell for $150 or under? Are you really going to sit in your living room banging out emails? I thought that was what your iPhone was for.

LOL @ all the confusion about Mac Minis as servers... You must be new here... http://www.macminicolo.net/

This place has been in business for about 5 years now, specializing in using the Mac Mini as a server platform. Whether or not it's really a good idea is anyone's guess, but mac fans seem to like it. IMHO it's pointless now that virtualization has gone mainstream. It's now cheaper to get a rackmount server with 16 cores and divide them up amongst all the clients; you get the same (or more) speed, overall higher reliability/availability, and the ability to easily migrate to newer/faster hardware.

You really have no idea what the hell you are talking about... Do you....

Kids nowadays... say the darnest things :)

with exactly the same specs as the 2.4 GHZ one with PSU, ITX case and videocard as well as better card reader its 350 USD or less. But if u wanna pay extra 349 USD for portability(WITH NO MONITOR TOO), then be my guess
