Are you guys serious Tegra 3 sucks, OMAP 5 destroys its as well. Android on a tablet is a horrible experience al the apps are just stretched out version of the phone apps. Anyway This Changes Everything AGAIN!

Apple created the tablet category 2 years ago? I thought the first tablet was created almost 40 years ago, and I could have sworn Microsoft came out with the original Slates more than 10 years ago, and let's not talk about the Palm 20 years ago ... and ... in other words get over yourself Apple. You've never created anything what you do is take an existing idea and product and execute your adaption very well and make it easy to use. Let's be honest now.

[citation][nom]MediaAccelerators[/nom]maybe im just cynical but is this truly a quad core gfx chip or is it a dual core chip with and additional 2 media accelerators.....[/citation]
If a previous Tom's article is correct, then I think they just improved the GPU, but not the CPU. The article stated that the model number for the SoC for the iPad 1 isblahblah-30X, iPad2 is -40X, and iPad3 is -45X. I am not certain, but I think that they improved the GPU for the higher pixel count, but left the cpu power the same.

So, app animations and games should still be smooth, or the devs could go for more eyecandy, but render at 1024x768 or somewhere between that and the double res. display.

[citation][nom]dragonsqrrl[/nom]The SGX543 MP2 in the A5 is not 2x faster on average then the GPU in Tegra 3. That chart isn't just oversimplified, it's downright misleading. They can probably pull up a performance bench somewhere to backup their claim, but that would be the exception and far from the rule.[/citation]
Well the SGX543 MP2 in the A5 is dual core, so I'd guess the new quad core graphics chip in the A5X is the SGX543 MP4, which is the same one in the PS Vita..

Waiting for samsung to release their new galaxy tab, with reportedly dual core A15 SoC and Mali graphics plus the 2560x1600 res display.
Should be interesting how it compares performance-wise with this ipad.

OMG man you are so right! I tried Android on a tablet once, but it was like totally impossible to use. Anyway, I for one will definitely be getting the new iPad when it comes out. As an owner of an iPad and iPad 2 I can tell you that the experience just keeps building up to be more and more satisfying. I mean, I'm not ashamed to say that initially I had some trouble getting a good experience with my iPad until Steve Jobs, may he find an apple logo on his throne in heaven, told me how to hold it right. After that, I started having to do my laundry constantly just to keep up! If my pal Philip is telling the truth, and come on, we all know he is, the new Ipad, "delivering the most amazing experience people have ever had with technology" will truly change EVERYTHING. Don't you get it! This is Jobs legacy!

[citation][nom]techtre2003[/nom]Wonder what they will call it when next year's model comes out.[/citation]

"The New iPad 2"

Seriously, despite what all the android fanboys might say, this new iPad is amazing. I mean I've seen enough evidence from all the commentators on here to know as much. Apple has 1 tablet, the iPad, which will come in two flavors. One with a retina display and one without. Android on the other hand has tabs from Samsung, Asus and others each with their own unique resolution. I mean that Asus infinity will have 1920x1200 (Why 16:10 and not 16:9 like most movies and HD youtube videos are?) and apparently Samsung will have a new tab with 2560x1600 (again 16:10). Point is android has so much segmentation that it's hard to offer a consistent experience across all devices that would make everyone go wow. Also it doesn't help Android when not every device is running the same OS. I mean look at the Kindle Fire (not even running Honeycomb where as newer devices are). Simply put Apple knows what they are doing and this new iPad will be a huge success.

No Siri? That would be the only reason I would want one. They spent the energy acquiring the Siri technology and don't implement it in their "cutting edge" product. WTF? Looks like the Steve Jobs magic is already wearing off.

The trolls be trollin. and no. Android is superior in the variety. If I want a 7in Tab, I get it. If I want a cool tablet-netbook hybrid ask ASUS, if I want some Graphics boss, Im gonna wait for the G-tab 2's to come out. Android is the real "innovator" here. My favorite innovator is still Aperture though, and you cant change it.

Thats the point of Android. Its like Burger King, but not lame.

A good step forward with the 5mp camera and extra graphics power to handle the retina resolution. I'm not surprise at all that PowerVR GPUs are faster than Tegra3. Even iPad2 is faster than transformer prime with Tegra3 anyway:

Moreover, they've managed to retain the impressive battery life is a really big PLUS!

Before using iPad2, my mentality about computers is that it can do a lot of things but everything it does is a compromise, in other words, it can do nearly as good of a job but can't beat a specialised hardware or tool that is born to do one task (such as PS3, X360 etcs).
After using the iPad2, I realise it dose not have to be a compromise, I can have it all.

Look at the PS Vita. That's got an MP4 also. Who knows, it could even be using very fast dedicated VRAM (again like Vita). We don't know enough about it at this point. Although, I am quite certain it won't be consistently 4X as fast. Different architectures and software have favorites. But the potential is there.

I still won't buy one.

I refuse to buy apple products while they continue to force their agenda on us...Itunes required, no expandable media, no flash web content, no standard USB port. I can't really complain about the prices anymore, they're competitive at least.

But...I can't really buy an Android tablet either. Their user experience is just crap right now. The market is so segmented that any app developed isn't really optimized. You're not getting the full potential of your hardware.

Not only that, some of the basic tasks just work better on Apple. Ever take a picture on an Android phone? I have a Bionic and a Nexus One, both of which take 2 seconds after button is clicked to actually capture. Any movement causes image blur. Not on Apple. Playing video? A majority of video codecs aren't supported, meaning you have to convert everything to an Android standard. Not on Apple, they have VLC player.

Android will have my support when they get it right. Sadly, that isn't the case yet.

Lol, then you should stop buying Samsung, Microsoft, Amazon, Intel, HP, Dell, Acer, Sony, Toshiba, Nokia, Nintendo, Vizio as well. lol. Guess that leaves you with Radio Shack.

Um, they managed to keep the same battery life by putting a much bigger battery in it (hence, the device is heavier). The iPad 3 uses more power than it's predecessor..

But I think it's too early to say that it has the same battery performance anyhow. I'm sure you understand that what companies claim and what they deliver can differ greatly.

[citation][nom]jezus53[/nom]Not that I'm supporting him, but the xbox 360 isn't being praised for having superior build quality and parts.[/citation]

Perhaps because they are not using the same parts perhaps?

I think you missed the fact that this guy was trolling Apple products, pretending to be an overly obsessed apple fan that some how gets of by holding his iPad (hence the laundry)

I think it's safe to assume they agree with you about android.

nice resolution, 1 question though. some apps/games are only stretched if you want full screen right? where you touch the x2 to zoom in. so with this resolution i wonder how those games will look like.
