I think someone at Apple needs to look up the word "Hubris", innovation does not exist in a vacuum, their innovation's rest on the shoulders of others just like everyone else.
iPod .. not the first MP3 player
iPhone .. not the first smartphone
iPad .. not the first tablet
They took existing ideas, refined them and brought them to market. They get kudos for this, but the rest of the world has not been static. At this time most innovation in many of these technologies is being led by others, proof is seen by the iterative releases of the phones/tablets over the last few years with nary a major advancement.
At the end of the day, the most creative and innovative thing that Apple has done was not the iPod, iPhone or iPad. It was building those devices and providing a simple method to obtain content via iTunes. If the original iPod didn't have iTunes it would have been no different than the competition, and Apple would have faded away since the iPod/iTunes brought their business out of bankruptcy (along with a couple hundred million from Microsoft).
