when i get mail(window live mail 2012) and receive a pps as attachment , if i try to open i get the message m( error at 0x00005 fail to open . etgc... then notice that the error comes from the temp files.

i tried to save the attachment on another computer , transfer it with thumb drive on this computer and was able to open it with powerpoint .

also notice that other pps on drive are working fine
could you please help me

Solution
0xC0000005 = STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION. Essentially: Memory corruption has caused the application to crash. Nothing you can do, except let technical support know their application is clobbering RAM somewhere.
Your question is a little confusing , are you saying that one particular e-mail attaschment won't open on your computer but other attachments of the same form do ? I guess that if you have to open it with power point then that's the program that created it and that's the program that needs to be used to open it.
You must need Power Point on your computer.

thank you
i have powerpoint 2010

i can open wmv attachment etc , but the only one i can't open are powerpoint presentation.i tried removing and re-installing open office 2010 , (problem remains).
The same pps opened on another computer works fine.also older pps stored on my hard drive can be opened ( i concluded there are nothing wrong with pps viewer)
but if it is recently received (livemail 2012)and i try to save it on drive or open it i get the following message
powerpoint application error -- the application was unable to start at 0x00000005 etc...,
also another info "powerpoint can't read c:\.........| capri.pps)

Is it possable that the sender used a different version of Power Point then what you have , maybe 2007 version ?
I know when at one time I was in an office work place I had Office 2007 on my laptop and the rest of the office personel had Office 2003 and we were recieving e-mail in Outlook from a client using Office 2007 and I was the only one able to open the e-mails because I had Office 2007.

the same attachment sent by the same person to my computer (office 2010)and my laptop(office 2007) ,gave different results .
now i will try to install office 2007 and check the results

Now i installed powerpoint 2007 and had those e-mail send back to me
to my surprise everything works fine.
i went back to pp2010 repeated the process -----
same results has before .so iguess people at microsoft are sleeping on the job.

thanks nayway for your ingterest

tried different things , but to no avail .

then i decided that the problem was either window live mail 2012 or powerpoint 2010

so i installed pp 2007 , had the same pps attachments sent back to me ,then tried to opened them with pp2007
to my surprise everything works fine.
tried to open them with pp2010 had the same problem as before so i concluded that my problem was pp2010.
Should be reported to microsoft ??????

n.b. pp2010 was working fine for previous attachments that were on my hdrives

thanks for the interest

If the file was downloaded, check the general tab under properties. At the bottom there is an option to unblock the file. Security settings might prevent from opening normally and will result in this same error message.

Thank you, that was the problem. This is not related to memory error or using office 2010 (2007). This answer is correct.
Thanks again!

Hello I dont understand the answer of MarcAce.
I don't have office 2007. So what do you mean íf the file is was downloaded ?
Please help me with the problem.. mar

My problem was solved with right click on file that won't open, properties and then click on ther "Unblock" field. If the file was downloaded from "untrusted" source or even just created on another computer, Office 2010 would classifie it as potentially harmful.
