[SOLVED] Application thumbnails are broken in Windows search ?

Just hopped onto my computer today and randomly after changing absolutely nothing - my thumbnails for applications are broken when searching in the start menu search bar. They all appear as the little box with the X in it.

All application thumbnails seem fine elsewhere - what's happened and how do I resolve this?

try rebuilding search index - https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/58569-rebuild-search-index-windows-10-a.html

right click start button
choose powershell (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter
once its completed, copy/paste this command into same window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth and press enter

SFC fixes system files, second command cleans image files, re run SFC if it failed to fix all files and restart PC

Tried this and it didn't fix it. But luckily I did find the solution for anyone looking (future reference). Changed my display scaling under "ease of access - display" to 25% more than what I currently had it at. Then restarted my machine, and set the scaling back to normal. Weirdly - this fixed it, no idea why, but found this solution in the depths of reddit.
