Are AMD FX Chips Backwards compatible with AM2+ Boards? I have a very late AM2+ ASUS M4A785D-M PRO motherboard produced in 2010. I can't find information on the web, it just says AM3+ compatible, but i know AM3 CPUs are compatible with AM2+ motherboards.

I suppose it doesn't even matter anyway there's not much of an increase from Phenom ii x4 if it's just gaming.

AM3+ is a modification of the AM3 socket. It has one additional pin for new Bulldozer-based AM3+ processors and is backwards-compatible with AM3 processors. It broke backwards-compatibility with AM2 and AM2+ processors because it does not support DDR2 memory.
