Are Nvidia's 8600GT chipsets defective?

Recently Tom's Hardware ran an article implying the 8600GT might be defective, but they did not mention anything specific. Concidering Nvidia's ongoing problems with the 8600M chipsets in notebooks I'm wondering whether there might be some truth to the rumor.

I have no proof per say, but I have sold a few and I run a over clocked version of the 8600gt and my son has been using one on a gaming machine for over 8 months now. No problems at all (Other than not playing CRYSIS but we have wanted to)

ya the shader model is the issue i own a nvidia 8600gt graphic card the thing is it has the shader model 3.0 but not 4.0 as specified

WTF are you talking about? Where did you get that?

The issue was the bump material composition, not the shader model support.
