This is clearly obvious. A PC gamer can easily transfer their skills to a controller and get proficient within days. A console gamer has a really hard time mapping out all the controls on the keyboard, let alone the mouse.

I know personal anecdotes aren't reliable, but I have a friend on XBL who's pretty damn good with MW2. Tried MW on PC, and his K/D can't go above 0.8. It's been several months too. Meanwhile, I played MW2 on PS3 and led in a few matches online, with nearly zero prior experience with controllers.

yes i think we pc gamers are better than the console gamers ...
as we play all kind of games ranging from FPS to RTS everything .... specially RTS games that need usually more brain and its mainly for the pc gamers ...so beware console gamers from us...

kinect, move, wiimote = all bu11sh1t

The first console company to deliver mouse and keyboard controller for FPS play will own the console market.

I have been a PC gamer since the days of doom over an IPX or Netbeui network and have been dumping money into gaming PCs since. Very expensive and a cheap console (by comparison) such as PS3 or XBX360 is very appealing to my budget. Just popping in a game and playing is also appealing.

I do own an xbox360, wii, psp, ds.

There are some titles on the cosoles that I like, none of which are FPSes. I have a bunch of FPSes, but only on PC. Everytime I try an play an FPS on XB360, I just feel "inhibited".

I would totally embrace the console FPS market if they offered keyboard and mouse.

I've played Dragon Age Origins on PS3 and quickly changed to the PC. So much better. Wish more companies would have more games for the PC.

This seems to be very old inaccurate information. Microsoft didn't just "test it then can it" they fully rolled out and implemented cross-platform play into Games for Windows Live starting in 2007 with Shadowrun, Lost Planet, and Universe at War. Microsoft has stopped making cross-platform play available for a while, but last I heard they will be bringing it back out eventually.
I love tomshardware.com guys, I come here at least once a day to check out the articles and news, but very late inaccurate articles like this bother me, these cross-platform games started in 2007 and were stopped in 2008, so it's 2 years late for this article. So the whole second half of the article... "So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative"."Sood then continued expressing his belief that cross platform play with the Xbox 360 would promoted the PC as a superior gaming platform". Neither of these things happened to my knowledge even though Microsoft DID launch this initiative and killed it for now.
Here's the wiki with some of the info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Games_for_Windows_%E2%80%93_LIVE

If their was more software and hardware game availability both platforms could be made better. The bottom line is there is no real reason why controllers, joysticks, mouse, and keyboards couldn't be more widely used on both platforms. It all boils down to the software and hardware developers.

My 2cents; console gamers probably have better developed twitch responses and map memory, PC Gamers are generally older players and have more patience and work as a team better in online multiplay.

Not that one is better than the other, certain games like Modern Warfare are perfect for consoles, Games like Battlefield 2 are more suited to the PC crowd.

i dunno about that.. im preeetttyy good at MW2.. i dont think any console can even somewhat hang with a pc gamer when it comes to FPS games.. mybe a rpg.. or racing.. but even then.. i doubt it.. but as far as a FPS.. nooooo waaayyy.. pc gamers take their game play serious.. we invest time, money, studying our machine, ect.. i just dont see a pc gamer even getting somewhat of a challenge from a console gamer..

I proved this years ago with CS:S. A cocky console gamer friend ignorantly and constantly claimed his gamepad was better at FPS games than the good ol mouse and keyboard combo. So I decided to challenge him and told him to get a adapter for his gamepad. We decided on CS:S because he was a pretty good player of CS on the xbox version.

Needless to say I slaughtered him and I don't consider myself to be even a good CS player. To this day he now plays CS:S on steam and never with a gamepad but still won't admit the gamepad is what held him back.

as good as ppl are at counterstrike i cant EVEN see why he would attempt a gamepad.. even with a mouse and keyboard.. your going against pros.. +1 for the mouse n keyboard..lol

PC FPS shooters been playing it like that for a decade longer than console people. Console gamers are more casual. Let's face it, we spend 3x-4x more money on our PCs than the cost of a console, hence we're more devoted and nerdier than those "kids"... i dunno if that's something to be proud of.....

I'm a PC player and no matter how long I spend playing shooters over at my friends house or at a XFest I always end up near the bottom of the scoreboard because I simply lack the ability to play with console controllers and it's beyond me how people can play with 2 sticks. As such, I keep on hearing my friends bragging about their awesome FPS skills and I want future games to be cross-platform simply so I can shut them up for once and that their awesome controllers skills are nothing. Yes, I know that the mouse/keyboard setup is inherently superior to controllers in FPS games but I want cross-platform anyways,it's kind of annoying how I have to play shooters on the PC and I have to compare my scores with people playing on the console when 75% of the population are 10 year old whinny losers.

I think the context of this article is slightly off. Console gamers and pc gamers both CAN have good hand eye coordination. The advantage for pc gamers is that our input method (mouse and keyboard) is much more accurate and agile.

This is not up for debate. The controller is not as fluid, agile, or accurate as the mouse and keyboard. Anyone who says otherwise is a complete retard or is serious denial.

Team work is also not exclusive to either platform. It's simply comes down to input method.

Hmm.. No surprise here. Better control and higher resolution screens would easily do the trick. And after building my first game pc + steam it's hard 2 go back though consoles still have some merits :). I have to say microsoft is missing a pretty big market here. All games don't have to connect to live but some games where it would be "fair" or having some crossplay servers would make sense too. Really msoft hasn't taken advantage of the of as a platform ever sense we heard live anywhere a few years back. Boy what would I give for them to buy valve for steam.

Yeah, the answer is too obvious, especially on FPS, I find myself not only better with the key and mouse, but also much more comfortable.

Does it make it the ultimate gaming platform? I'd give him that too. After all, it gives better frame rates, less lags, high performance rigs can be bought for cheap now and last but not least, it does much more than only gaming.

Well I have played both Pc & console and i have to say pc hands down! For to reasons one console does not offer browser features an two the lag is so bad on console that it makes it impossible to shoot down the helicopters!

A lot of people have this snarky attitude when it comes to gaming. It is obvious that PC gamers have an advantage over console gamers due to the accuracy and speed of the mouse and keyboard. It's not an issue of who can play better by skill. Stop saying that "this and that" is better just because you own it. What you own might be the best to you, but no the best to others. Now regarding the fact that it is relatively easier to hack on the PC than on any console, I advise game companies to offer mouse-and-keyboard support for consoles and setup special (mouse-and-keyboard ONLY) servers so that gamers don't have an unfair advantage over each other.

I don't this is necessarily true. I don't think that the console gamers were that good.

I play Counter Strike with an Xbox controller. Laugh away folks, but I do just fine. Infact I strafe people in ways that makes them nudge with their mouses really quickly and then I'm off in the other direction. The transition between the movements is so smooth because of the joypad.

And it also depends on what sensitivity they play on. You'd need people (like me) who usually play on the insane sensitivities, to make it fair. Because that's the only hinderance for the console players, the sensitivity.

Therefore I don't think I will be taking this at face value. I bet if you took some pro Halo 2 players (xbox) and pro Pc players. It would be a fucking close match. The guys on Halo 2 are, just fucking incredible. If you go away and watch videos (and don't flame at me) I don't think you'd tell the difference between the two, and the Xbox players will always have that (strafing) motifé to give them an edge.

and if anybody wants to play me just message me! :)
