Well yes there is. Lets say I immigrated to Ireland. Naturally, I am not a born Irish citizen, so my allegiance is not totally there. However, If I devote myself to that country, then I would be an Irish patriot, in essence, becoming a patriot. 😉
Ok, I see where the disconnect is. I am misunderstanding you. So you want to be patriotic to the USA. Devote yourself to it, preach its worth and believe in the values that are instilled by it and its constitution. Learning the constitution is a great start. Alot of politicians(on both sides) forget that and fail to uphold it, which is pledged by them when entering their service. Promote the core values of our country and try to consciously portray them in discussions with others about it.
A way to be a patriot is to try to make your nation a better place. Do something to make a difference.
While the term is often used as a lable (in today's politics) to put someone down who doesn't agree with one's opinion, patriotism is a state of mind.
It isn't about one's profession, but is a calling to be better, to do better, and to share one's gifts and capabilities to teach others to do the same.
