Being a "master" is a state of mind. I think many of us feel we are indeed "masters" in our own minds, anyway.

However, when I go home, my "master" of 26+ years reminds me of my wrongness (which is the key to marital bliss........always being wrong even when you are right, and admitting it) and I am demoted to house lackey!

think i saw the following phrase somewhere here on Tom's but it is a good phrase nonetheless!

If a man says something in the woods and there is no woman around to hear it, is he still wrong?

I think the answer is "YES"................

You're just saying that because it is true

I can't do drugs I can't pronounce (at least, not any more), and you have to ask the little woman to get any cash out of my wallet; that is, if you can get past the dust and the mold (and the [strike]Hun[/strike], errr, Hon).

(until The Boss says otherwise)

I am sure some of us are more "repelling" than others, but when I was a "rappel master" back in the day I never dropped anyone, even when conducting Australian style rappels (face forward).

Actually got to "save" my wife on a rappel one time (she was a cadet at the time) due to an entanglement when she was descending. I was her "hero". Maybe that is why she has tolerated me for so long......

It isn't unpatriotic to choose to not serve in the military. Thats why it is a choice. A volunteer corps. Whoever has said that it is unpatriotic to not serve doesnt know how our country works too well...

Well, let me restate that, because that is kind of incorrect. In terms of military service to the country only 1-2% would be patriots. There are other ways to serve the country. Judges, Policeman, Meter Maids, any form of government service is technically, service to the country.

No I didnt say that. I said patriotism is devotion to the country. A government job is a job in the government. There is a distinct difference, lol. 😛

You can be unpatriotic and work for the government or be patriotic and not work for the government, or be unpatriotic and not work for the government or be patriotic and work for the government, haha. They are not inherently intertwined.

While not deployed or fulfilling my military duties, I hold a government civilian job(I am a guardsmen.) That doesnt make me more or less patriotic than any other person.

I do however, hold great regard for our country and am highly devoted to its success.

Again, not high regard, devotion... If you are devoted to your country, you are a patriot. Are you devoted? Then yes you are a patriot.

:) Patriotism is similar to nationalism without the political connotation.

Joining the military and serving your country does not necessarily make you a patriot. Serving in an official government capacity does not make you a patriot. Devotion to your country (and in some case to the brink of your life) makes you a patriot. However, you do not need to be in the military to do that.

Devotion and service are two different things. One is a requirement for patriotism and the other is not.
